You are correct, it doesn't prove there is anything different. What is shown is that the exhaust tips in "today's" car are not what arrives from the factory.

    You can't

And that's the obvious point. You have no idea whether it's got a 2-stroke 50cc engine developing 10hp, a hybrid developing 600hp or a diesel developing 600 lb/ft of torque.

Visual clues prove nothing - you will just have to wait until Porsche reveals the full story. Unless of course your trusted best friend saleman knows better...

    Re: You can't

By the way , what has happen to that ' mooving front lip' that we used to see on some old mules ?
It looks like it is no longer there ?

Are they keeping it for the 998 ?

    Re: You can't

    Latest info:
You can order the facelift 997 from spring onwards, delivery will take place right after the factory holidays in summer. There will be still NO PDK available, introduction of the PDK will be in 2009 together with the Panamera. But from then you will get PDK for ALL models, including the Turbo and it will replace the tiptronic.

complete bullocks, no facelift this Model Year

    Re: You can't

He's referring to spring 08 and delivery's second half of 08.
    Not this summer.
But that is just like Porsche have always done. Around May info will be released and from that point you can order.
Delivery's will take place end of August.

Sorry, I meant spring 2008, as we already have summer and spring this year is over.

The news over here are that PDK will only come with the launch of the Panamera in 2009

    Re: PDK

So this facelift it's just an exterior restyling.. no blotooth, no TV, no PDK ....

I don't think so. We may not get PDK with the facelift, but I expect to see the new DI engines.

I will be very disapointed if there is no blutooth or i-pod connection when the facelifted model is released

Please help me, Gnil! Which 'moving front lip' on which older mule(s) do you mean?

Thanks for your help and greetings

Phoenix, you may have a look at the pics on page 3 of this thread - there was a speculation (maybe it was in another thread) that the black front lip you can spot on this older pics would be an aerodynamic device automatically adjusting depending on the speed of the car (just like the rear spoiler).
BTW: according to German carmags the 997-successor will be 991, not 998 - leaves some more years to arrive at the 1,000

    Re: You can't

The ' lip' was seen on this photo ( see link bellow).. and I remember seeing a sketch describing it completly , but I can't find it anymore

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=257643&page=0&fpart=5&vc=1

    Re: You can't

I think that sketch was actually part of a patent. I thought ROn Houston started that thread back then. If you look for recently filed patents by Porsche, you'll also understand why some car mags suddenly showed photoshops with a GT1 successor with a very weird front bonnet.

Sorry, Gnil... something is wrong here. I can't see a photo on the linked page. Could you please post the pic again? Thanks!

    Welcome back mikell!
It seems so that the 997 Mk II will be intruduced in 2008 (next year). Some are speculating, that it might be available in spring/summer 2008 and others think that it will come in the second half of 2008. Last info I read said, that you can order the Mk II in spring 2008 and it will be build after the porsche-holidays in summer 2008 and delivered in the 3rd quarter '08.

Greetings over the big "pond" to CA from munich

    FWIW

Spoke to my OPC yesterday. Facelift build starts March 2008 for delivery April 2008. No details on what "facelift" actually means though.

    Good morning Gnil!

Yes, I can, I can! Thank you for the extra-post.

I think untill the reveal of the 997 Mk II it's going to become a exciting period.

    Greetings to Switzerland

    Enjoy your day !

I still wonder what is becomming with this lip ?
Was it tested for another car ?
Will it be on of the 'new cool features' on the 998 ?
    Does it not work ?

It might also serve to protect the underside of the front fascia from those nasty curb rashes.

    Re: You can't

whats the latest concensus on power for:

    3.6L Carrera
    3.8L Carrera S

    ?

    Re: You can't

Just been doing some of my own estimates based off of the Cayenne Direct Injection facelift.

These are my guesses before and after a facelift (in red) along with the next logical steps up for the GT3/Turbo/GT2.

    Re: You can't

Alex, I believe these are the most realistic figures we can expect for the second generation 997.
All figures higher then these are too optimistic imho, though possible.
But p wouldn't be p if they "gave" us maximum output of the DI at once... there still has to be room for the 998...

I guess what with the facelift Carrera S already having 3.8L and DI, then the only place for Porsche to go for the 998 would be to bore out to 4.0L for the new Carrera S - which would come in at around 390bhp.

Or perhaps for the 998 they will concentrate on weight-saving more than power increase

That will be the way to go in the future!
Power war must come to an end, give us light and still powerful cars!
