100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

    Source: Autocar

    Quote:

The latest Porsche 911 isn't just quick on the road, it's quick out of the factory, too.

After just over three years of production, the 100,000th 997-model 911 has rolled off the line at Porsche's Zuffenhausen factory.

That makes the 997 the fastest-selling 911 in Porsche's history.

The record car is a Carrera S manual in classic Guards Red, and will be heading to a customer in the Frankfurt area.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

    Great stuff.

Now I suppose we should expect some inane comments from nberry criticising it for being mass-produced and about the car not being special or exclusive enough.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

This is impressive...Now Porsche, please use some of that money to go back to proper racing!!! :-)

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

Nope, all money probably going into paying off interest on massive bank loans for buying up VW!!

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

Porsche borrows 10 billion euros to pay for Volkswagen stake

    Source: Detroit News

    Quote:

Porsche AG, maker of the 911 sports car, borrowed $13.7 billion from 37 lenders to finance its purchase of Volkswagen AG shares, a banker involved in the transaction told Bloomberg News.

Porsche cut the loan from as much as 35 billion euros after Volkswagen shareholders tendered less than 1 percent of their stock to the Stuttgart, Germany-based company. Porsche offered shareholders the lowest amount allowed under German law after its holding in Volkswagen, Europe's largest carmaker, breached the 30 percent threshold that forces a takeover offer.

Porsche will pay interest of 20 basis points more than the euro interbank offered rate for the loan, which matures in a year, the banker said. The carmaker offered to pay as much as 47.5 basis points if it borrowed the maximum 35 billion euros.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

Just think how good our cars would actually be if all the Porsche profits went back into Research and Development!!

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

it is such a great number consider Porsche factory only prodcue 167 units of 911 per day...; 100,000 divided by 167 would be 599 production days.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

Niiiice. Congratulations Porsche! Maybe the facelift will be postponed if they keep selling so well.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

I don't understand why everybody is so happy. The best Porsches ever made were when Porsche the company was not raking in the profits. Since the 996 when Porsche went mainstream, introduced wet sump, crappy leaky engines in the lower models, the Cayenne, cars bloated like pigs the profit machine really started going.

I'm happy because more cars means more wrecks in salvage yards; will make future parts acquistions easier.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

More mass-production irons out production defects. A bigger customer base means design flaws get ironed out too from negative customer feedback.

Yeah, excellent point, all that money is going to get spread around: hopefully a decent amount into R&D for making even more reliable cars.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

When can I get my 1/100,000 dash badge?

Unlike the Ferrari, you can drive the Porsche daily, experience incredible performance and not have an umbilical cord tied to a mechanic. That is why Porsche settled on this market segment. Given the performance of the 997, it shouldn't be surprising that it has sold so many in so short a time.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

So Porsche (997) 911s recently won the 24hrs du Mans and the 24hrs of Nuburgring...but they have to go back to "proper racing"?? What is that?. And who cares about how many cars they make as long as they are as good as the 997? Want an investment, buy Porsche stock, not cars.

Excellent! A badge to display our exclusivity.

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

hehehe. Porsche you never let me down.

Keep cranking those suckers out while your loyal followers slip and slid down the slop of depreciation the likes of which that has never seen before in a Porsche model. Yea I know, cars are not an investment and all I care about is performance blah blah blah.

    I love it!!!!

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

Well, I'm glad, but it makes me feel kind of down, too.

Glad because the company is doing great and not swimming in red ink. Down because Porsches are getting to be pretty common on the roadway. Since buying my 997 in January, I've had exactly one other 997 blink his lights at me. I guess the other Porsche drivers just wonder, "What does he want"?

    Exactly!

And I primarily care about my family/friends and my enjoyment of the car- everything else is a very distant second in importance.

    Good points by Easy too!

Hell! That means Porsche depreciation is nearly as expensive as Ferrari maintenance? Yikes!

Re: 100,000th Porsche 997 rolls off the line

My 996 C4 cab highly optionned out only lost 40% after 4 years+. It is the least depreciation I have gotten on any car. Please stop saying they depreciate a lot, they don't. Ferrari is the only exception, but guess what, you can't get one so Ferrari depreciation is absolutely irrelevant to most of us. And if you pay market prices, they will depreciate more than Porsches.
