Re: McLaren on a winning streak

A couple of speculative renders of the McLaren P15 from Autocar...

The mule has been out and testing. It has a very huge, aggressive fixed wing and roof intake.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    The rumored 750 LT?

No, that's most likely the mule for P15. It's just using a P11 body, similar to how the LF mule was a 458.

no thats the 570LT or 570 GT4 Street Version.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I don't think they will put such a giant wing on the 570 LT, or a roof intake. Some P1/Sprint car owners (and very good customers of McLaren) have said that it's the P15 mule.

Doesn't sound that way if I read the description right but I'm no McLaren guy, so maybe...

A 570LT would certainly be interesting but why 570LT? Why not 590 or 600LT? Smiley

Outside of the 650, 675, P1, this is the worst design from McLaren.

To think they did the beautiful F1 and 12C........This is like a toddler designing the next car from McLaren.

Hell, the 720S is light years ahead, this picture, the front end design, not even a mother can love something like that.

It's not a real car... This is a P11 with various test pieces tacked on to it.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

u might have a different point of view but that's ok, cause we all are different in acceptance in confort are we??  the fact that this car is unable to be drive on the road is pretty obvious, as its soo bumpy, i was asking to get out of this car after 5min.   perhaps the road condition isn't good enough for our environment here......

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Most track only cars are terrible on the street that's for sure.

Hell my buddy's modified GT3RS for track duties is unbearable on normal public roads.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

From watching dozends of Youtube Videos I think the 720s is the fastest car you can buy out there. Also - the Performante might be faster on the track, the 720s pushes apparently much stronger on the higher speeds. No doubt - I think this is the most adorable car right now. Just look how the chassis is build around the front seats. Check those windows and roof-windows. The entire car is build in the most optimal way. The Performante is still a car build on top of a common car platform. Total different story. So I think - even if you don't own it RC - it is the best car you can buy right now.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I agree, if I was in the market for that segment, that’s the car I would buy, It oozes performance and sitting in it feels very unique and the whole car looks purpose built with performance and weight in mind. And you can get one without selling your soul or jumping off a bridge...

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

The 720s is the best (super)car you can buy right now hands down. Im with Lars its totally different build with the carbon chassis and layout. I think also with the right tires (no P Zeros) like the Performante its faster arround a track.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

I'd be willing to bet it bests the Performante in magazine tests if it comes with Trofeo R.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

And the same could be same that if you gave the perf 800hp...

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Except you can't easily give a Performante 800 hp, and you can just spec Trofeo R on your 720S.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Yeah, with the same tires the Performante as no chance IMO.

Sure you can...just slap on a pair turbos like--ohhhh...Smiley

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

    Topspeed:

Yeah, with the same tires the Performante as no chance IMO.

Then that would put just about any car at an unfair advantage since macca disgustingly lied about the HP by around a 100, then to give every other car a fair advantage, the macca should be banned from using trofeos.  Because, ya know, you really can't give a cheater / liar any more advantages than they already have.  I honestly feel like i'm the only one who can actually see this car for what is is: a hypercar.  Macca made a hypercar and then decided to classify it as a supercar.  If they had actually given it 720hp +- at the crank, this would be no problem. But when you decide to underate your hp by a disgusting amount, the only way to even the odds, are to put you on worse tires.  Plus, wasn't it said that the corsas on the 720s are equal to old trofeos?  To put the Performante against the 720s is like putting the performante against an updated P1 with better tires.  If you add the extra 100hp (than advertised) to the 720s, you should get about 607ps / tonne vs the P1's 603ps / tonne.

Dragtimes's 720s is literally faster in a straight line than the P1, while the huracan is not faster in a straight line than the 918.  It even clocks 0-60 in 2.5 on basic p-zeros--not even the corsas nor the trofeos.  The Performante, has yet to be tested by C&D, so we don't know what it's best possible 0-60 is, but even with trofeos and 4wd, it will still barely manage to beat the 720s to 60. And you want to call this fair?

PS. This is directed at both of you.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

If the price is about the same, who cares?

I'm not really sure what you're trying to point out. We know the 720S is way more powerful, way lighter, way more usable, and that on the same it will probably be quicker on a track as well.

The Performante benefits greatly from AWD and supposedly the ALA is the next coming of Christ, so each car has it's perks.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

The 720s comes Standard with P Zeros and Optional with Corsas. Ive driven the 720s with the stnadard P Zeros and for this Type of car this is not the right tire. The new Corsas are good but nowhere near the old/new Trofeo Rs.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

Turbo engines always have more power than the manufacturer claims.

The McLaren 720S needs to output 720hp in non-optimal weather conditions. In good conditions it might have more 5-7% or so.

I remember some AutoBild dyno tests and for example the 488 GTB had 708ps(670ps stock), AMG GT R had 615ps(585ps stock) and 911 Turbo S exclusive had 627ps(607ps stock). Thats about 3-6% difference in power.

And maybe the 720S has less transmission power loss than a regular RWD super/sports car

All I know is it's quick!

    All wrong.

HP is calibrated to a certain standard, with temperature and humidity and elevation, German cars especially so as they all obey the regulations per DIN spec.

They do not account for elevation or non-optimal conditions when publishing HP ratings.

German DIN standard I believe can have a +- 5% variant.

And the 720S cannot have a transmission that's has less transmission lose than normal, it has the exact same transmission as the P1, 675, 650, 12C.

The problem is actually from people testing cars. They never bothered to take the engine out to do a engine dyne test.

All they do is 'estimate' driveline loss to calculate crank HP. It will never be accurate.

So you you agree with me. There is always a small difference from the claimed HP numbers.

I remember watching a documentary about the Nissan GT-R and the engineer said all GT-R(R35) engines have slighly different power numbers. It's impossible to build 2 things 100% equal.

But I agree with you about the dynos. They arent 100% accurate.

About the 720S transmission, I find it hard to believe that in 7 years there isn't any improvement in it.

Re: McLaren on a winning streak

That we can agree on. Engine dyno or nothing. Chassis dynos are only useful at making comparisons, though not in the sense of actual numbers.

    Performante is the T-800, 720S is a T-1000.

T-800 gets constantly beaten up hard, but always wins in the end - at least the hearts. Smiley
