These rumors, Rc, posted are now facts in a matter of a few minutes?

    Hilarious, isn't it.

For some of you guys, it may be. For me, this is hell. I get endless eMails and PMs asking for more details and "secrets". "Please...I won't tell anyone, tell it just to me...psst". Guys, I wrote RUMOURS. I'm not working for Porsche and I don't hide in the basement of Weissach to come out at night and check out their new toys. The rumours I posted are based on the information of a Rennteam User, some of our sources and some facts. I can't unveil the facts since they would endanger our sources. I like speculation, I enjoy reading all these posts, especially the ones "but my tuned car is faster".

Guys, you know now almost as much as I do and this is pretty close to the final thing. Just relax and try to think logical. The new GT2 will be the hell of a car but it won't enter Carrera GT territory, this is something I can assure you. It will however be close to it.

Also don't forget that there is "room" needed for the upcoming Turbo Powerkit between the 997 Turbo and GT2.
The Turbo Powerkit will be aprox. 1 second faster than the current Turbo from 0-200 kph, meaning around 11.8 seconds (factory claim). The power figure will be close to the GT2, it is very likely that the same larger turbo chargers will be used. Now take away 30-50 kg of weight, maybe slightly more depending on the options and configuration.

Now I shut up, I already said too much. THINK!!!

    Wasn't that WR's time?

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

I dont trust factory times. What if the car has less weight than the standart ones in the dealer for sale.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

    ^^
Exctly. I only rely on SA times since the cars are tested the same way.
We don't know hos the manufacturers test their cars; if the lap is done from a stand still, what options the cars have, what tires they are sitting on and so on.

WR's time was posted in 2003, driving an early CGT on standard Michelin tyres.....this how legends begin.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

my old 996GT2 is already a little bit to heavy on the track and i don't think i'll buy a car which will be 100 kgs heavier. No electronic driver help is the only way for my car.

I agree. Weight plus the strange rear make the 997 GT2 unapealling. What has happened to Porsche?

    Hello everybody!

It seems as if the 997 GT / 997 GT RS are going to become the only only "racetrack-Porsches"? The tailpipes look a bit unfinished in my eyes.

    Greetings

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

    it's possible, unfortunately!

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

    From 6speedonline.com
    Someone there has the brochure.

The following is an excerpt from it:
"Another major innovation is the use of launch control for the first time ever in a road going Porsche. As the name suggests, the system is designed to maximize acceleration from a standing start. To activate the function, simply depress the clutch and accelerator pedals. When the boost pressure rises to aprox. 13 psi, release the clutch as quickly as possible and max. acceleration automatically ensures. Normally on a turbocharged vehicle with manual gearbox, the boost pressure under acceleration from a standing start is relatively low. The turbo effect is delayed as the engine gathers speed and the boost press starts to build. On the new GT2, this initial delay is reduced. While the car is still stationary, the fuel injection is modified to help the engine reach max output earlier. The boost pressure is significantly increased
and the engine readied for a faster start. Traction is maintained under acceleration with the aid of an all new anti slip regulation function. Wheel spin is controlled via the engine management system thereby avoiding unnecessary clutch wear."

1440 kg is okay for a modern sports car - and much better than the 1500 kg I was expecting.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

The new GT2 is the real deal. I want one. Its thier quickest street car, the tailpipes are killer and it will be more nimble than a 997TT. I dont care if it sounds like a broken vacumn cleaner or comes with airfix glue and extra asbestos tail slats either.

And Launch control with a manual tranny is a cool idea.

No way will a 599GTB keep up with a new GT2 on any real windy road. The GTB is more Luxo Coupe then serious hard core sports car. The Lambo 640 is cool but is it as useable at the limit of adhesion or just a dynamic handgrenade?

Is the GT2 a car for "hedgies" or cali-greenwich-london posuers ? No, it will kill them dead even with TC and SC.
That might be a good thing to cull the fakes of our roads.

If you think you need more speed than a new GT2 you are either a nut job or have a death wish.

RC I hope you get a early test drive.

Hmmm, and I was about to post a question about how tuners plan to upgrade the car....
