    Am I being rediculous?

When I first started thinking about my turbo configuration I was 99% set on Cobalt over Natural Gray. After seeing Maximus' car it confirmed that this really is the color that speaks to me the most. My other thoughts were iris blue/natural brown, midnight blue/natural brown, and slate w/ black/terracotta. We had a November allocation sceduled, but due to some business moves I need to push it to April of '08 (my dealer's next and last allocation for the '08 997tt). This gives me more time to think about things - which I actually believe is not such a good thing. My dealer actually talked me out of cobalt because I chose the tiptronic, saying that at reslae most people looking for a cobalt car would want the 6 speed.

    Any thoughts on this?

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

I would buy the car for what YOU want, not the next guy. If you plan on trading the car in the next few years you're going to getter hammered anyways, and what's a few grand plus or minus when you have already lost $20 or $30K.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

Sounds like your salesman wants to make sure that if he gets the car on trade, he will be able to move it fast and that a cobalt tip is a "2 strike deal". Screw him, choose what you want.

Simply put - choose the color and the transmission that you want and don't worry about resale, because at the time you want to get rid of the car, you're going to take a bath regardless of what color and transmission you get!

Another IMHOs, cobalt (and speed yellow) are dramatic colors that grab you by the collar as soon as you see them - one is tempted to say that all Porsches should look so good. But sometimes people grow tired of those intense colors - make sure you'll love cobalt over the long haul. (from someone who "knows" lol)

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

Alan, would you clarify your last statement?

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

Let's see now. April 08 delivery and I'm guessing you'll keep the car at least a year, putting it into April 09. If your salesman knows what the car market will be in nearly 2 years from now, he needs to be picking stocks not selling cars. IOW when he makes a statement like that, he is proving he doesn't know S**T!

Are you buying a car for him or you?

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

    Saxguy,

The dealer isn't buying the car - you are. Furthermore, as stated by many current and former TT owners, resale after several years is irrelevant (ie. 3 plus years). Buy the tranny and color YOU desire and never look back. For example, many say to avoid a black exterior vehicle as its is difficult to keep clean. However, I'm on my 4th black on black car (and 2nd TT) and have never been happier. Also 3 out of 4 were slush boxes. Ironically, the only tranny that I had a problem with was the 6 speed. So, disregard what your salesman tells you and follow your heart. If you want a Cobalt Tip then just do it ! BTW, IMNSHO, it is never ridiculous to analyze how you want to spend your hard earned $150K. Good luck with YOUR analysis.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

I'm completely biased since I ordered an 08 TT in Cobalt/nat grey . I also had a hard time choosing between atlas grey and cobalt blue after a lifetime of balck and silver cars including a GT silver C2S. However, I decided that rather than an "elegant" look, I wanted a more "dynamic" look for the turbo...ergo, the decision for cobalt. Although I decided on nat grey interior, a nat brown would also look sweet!

Get what your heart speaks to you...not what a salesman is whispering to you.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

My house is "Bauhaus" modern. The landscaping is architected. All my cars are subdued colors (silver, grey, silver-grey, dark green) because I don't want them to look like a..., what to call it..., an "annoyance" in front of the house. Sounds control-freak snobby but if you're a minimalist it's something to consider.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

Some years ago, I bought a speed yellow Boxster that I fell in love with the instant I saw it. But, being a guy that likes anonymity, I got sick of the stares and being so "in your face". Personally, I think cobalt and speed yellow make fabulous cabs, not coupes.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

It's impossible to drive around the northeast in a Porsche and be 'anonymous'. My dark blue cab gets stares every time I take it out, especially with the top down.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

With Porsche we have the opportunity to order it as we like it, not per some spec sheet that the manufacturer has deemed asthetically acceptable for public consumption. Nothing about a Porsche is standard. It's not fudiciarily sensible to buy and own and maintain a Porsche yet people do it everyday. Get out of the rut of car ownership which routinely seems to say order something but don't go too wild or you'll get stuck. Rubbish!

    Agree 1000 percent.

However, I'm betting if _my_ friends and family members were to go "hog wild" when ordering options they wind up with normal looking Porsches.

    Re: Am I being rediculous?

I've seen Atomic's Cobalt/Natural gray TT and it looks stunning. I'm sure you've seen the photos on this forum (and others).

I just got back from a vacation in Europe. On display at Heathrow (an airport you should avoid if you can these days!) was a Cobalt TT. Beautiful.

Myself, I'm more comfortable less extroverted colors, so I went with Slate

It's really what will make you happy. These cars are all about personal enjoyment and you're gonna get hosed on resale anyways....

    I'm betting they're accountants?

    Normally drive a beige Volvo?
