    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

    Another first drive:
    http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/112_0709_2008_mercedes_benz_c63_amg

The sports pack looks like a good investment:

    Quote:
A Performance Package will include a mechanical limited-slip differential (offering 30 percent lockup under power, 10 percent or less on overrun), and compound steel brake rotors with aluminum centers (for vastly improved fade resistance and slightly lower weight). Springs and dampers are stiffened by 10 and 15 percent respectively, and the speed governor is raised to 174 mph. Europe's optional 19-inch wheels and tires won't be offered, as they can't survive urban-America's potholes.

Bumping up the power won't be difficult at all. It's a 6.2L engine with a lot of potential. Brabus will go nuts when they get their hands on the car.

My belief (until someone corrects me) is that the ECU is the only difference between the C63 and f. ex. the E63 engine. So if you re-programme, or switch, the ECU so that it thinks it's in a E63....

@ha: good point ha re: power/weight but at the end of the day, it's still a C Class! uggh!! I doubt if the quality of the fit/finish is as good as a CL63 AMG.

C63 is perhaps $60K vs CL63 at $155K....vastly difft buyer bases/ability to profitably include greater safety/perf/comfort tech...though some CL63 buyers will buy C63s for their kids' nannies....

That said, would value C63 more highly than currently ancient E63/CLS63, etc....sounds like new C-platform was developed w/latest/greatest computer-aided/virtual simulation engineering/testing, incl crash-testing, etc...the new 63 motor is outstanding new technology...importantly, the mass volumes of 63 motors help better spread R&D investment costs...and quickly learn real-world reliability/perf issues....

Given the extensive tech content/innovation of new-gen S and CL, yet impeccable S/CL quality/reliability to-date, suspect C63 will replicate their success....

Seems that more rapid pace of tech hardware/software advances and fiercely competitive car mkts are forcing mfrs to accelerate car development cycles; reduce/eliminate time gap/debugging time btwn EU and US intro; continually refresh/debug tech, even within a MY; shorten product life cycles before styling refresh; and reduce time btwn intro of mundane models and more profitable AMG/upscale variants.....

Increasingly, tech-intensive cars will need to be engineered/built/marketed/leased, etc more akin to similarly rapidly obsolescent/disposable tech commodities as smartphones/Blackberry/flat-panel TVs/laptops, etc....

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Has too many things going on, I don't like it. Has a killer engine and probably sounds like a thumping V8 but what is the real point of this car? It wont be sporty .. it will be fast in a straight line and that's it. I don't see the point of this car at all. It will cost as much as a E500 but doesn't look as good, has some newer technology but that's it.

To offer high performance and fantastic handling without compromising too much on comfort. ESP can be turned off, it comes with LSD, has extremely responsive steering, great handling and an amazing engine.

I see a clear purpose for this car and will without a doubt sell very well. This is not an over-powered luxury cruiser like the S65. MB has gone back to it's roots and the C63 is a bas ass AMG.

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

LSD is only available as a part of 030 Performance Package or as an Performance Studio item, it is NOT standard on C63.
    Further option is 280km/h limit.
BTW, unofficial Ring time is not that impressive...

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Unofficial ring time already? What's the time? 8:25

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

    8.10

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Wow 8.10 is a very good time if you ask me. Where did you get that figure from?

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

This is time with Corsa tires and 030 Performance Package.
I got in via email from my friend who works at Motorpresse...

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Yes Kreso you are right about the weight, that imo that is the start point of M3 's track advantage.
But however their torq difference would be more than 150nm as a result of C63 advantage.

MB are no fools, sportauto will test C63 with corsa an 030 package. Going to eat the M3 alive on N-ring.

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Well, not if the lap time is 8:10...

    Re: Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG

Thinking about it 8.10 min isnt impressive with 457hk/600nm with semi-R-tires and extra perforamnce package. Then the RS4 impress me more with the time 8.09 min with "only" 420 hp.
