    "suffers from an overly stimulating amount of midcorner lift-throttle oversteer" - think about those words for a minute. Does that sound like someone who has any clue about high performance driving, or someone trying to string a few fancy sounding terms together?

    I would be worried if it didn't "midcorner lift throttle oversteer" how else would you get rid of "corner exit understeer" on a stock, non modified 997TT? The test driver seems to have forgotten where the engine sits in the 911s.

    The 997TT may no longer be the last word in "sports cars" but to compare it to a benz is insane. I owned an E55 and have driven them on the track as well as SL55/65. There is no comparison

    Most tests by various magazines have found the cars very close in performance. Not bad for a car that was introduced in 2005. The 997TT has been put out to pasture by the Z06, GT3, GTRS and soon the GT2. Wouldn't 997TT owners be better off with a SL? I am told the SL55 eats up the tt in straight line acceleration.

    On a track, the SL and TT are clumsy, heavy and dare I say "disappointing".

    Given how close even the claimed NBR times are of 430, 997TT, 997GT3 and SL55, I doubt equally capable amateur rennteam drivers are capable of materially different track times in any of these cars....let alone "times" on a bumpy, public mtn twisties road (even if closed to traffic)....lots of empty rhetoric but even dubious, pseudo-precise data indicates marginal perf diffces in real-world conditions w/real-world, amateur, wkend warrior drivers, most of whom drive a POS SUV 90%+ of the time in daily life....

    I got my copy yesterday and I think these guys have become a joke, they should stick to writing rather than driving.
    Today was the annual PCA parade autocross here in SD where there was a total of 400 cars running. The course was long and very very curvy with a lot of off-camber turns and I am happy to report that my luxo TT got me second place in my class, beating all kinds of 996 GT3s, 997 GT3s, GT3RSs, GT2's and others. I was beat by a 996 GT3 fully prepared and driven by a driving instructor and only by a few tenths on a 1.5 minute course.
    For a car this heavy, the TT is as good as it gets, never mind what journalists say

    Hey Nick, THAT'S exactly the reason I bought the TT, a GT car, if I had wanted something more hardcore, I would have ordered the GT3/GT3RS. I guess I fit right in the crosshair for Porsche's projected demographic.

    At least the TT can be classified to be a GT car, F430 just doesn't fit anywhere, it's too soft to be a sports car yet too hardcore to be a GT car, it's neither a sports car nor a GT car.

    Agree. We tried SL55(with 030PP and 300km/h AMG limiter) against 997TT(manual, LSD) and R8(manual). In 100km/h till 260km/h 997TT was byy far the fastest car, SL55 was only 1car lenght faster then R8. In the end 997TT was going away from R8 and SL55 without any effort what so ever.

    If the 997 is clumsy and heavy on the track,how come in all but 1 test I have ever seen..it is quicker than a 430 ? (Substantially quicker on some circuits).
    Also the sl55 comment is preposterous..the sl55 is fast but no where near the performance of the 997tt,I know I owned one and the sl55 is about the same speed as a base 996tt with 414bhp.

    I doubt a SL would even do that well against a GT3..

    No way SL55 can be faster than TT.

    A stock SL55 mk1(500hp one) is one car behind my M5 when i try it on autobahn a few months ago. we hang out abot 80 to 240. And the SL was 1 car behind me. But i know mk2 ones slightly better than mk1. I saw a test it beat up M6.(517hp one)

    We were both very surprised that my SL55 AMG in a straight line was able to outrun the Turbo with no difficulties at all. This was performed with a start from stand still, both cars at idle.

    Some context. A race was held between two Egyptians one owning a 997TT and the other 430F1. They concluded that in most performance test the two cars were virtually the same.

    What surprised both was when Tarek who also owns a SL55 spanked the 997TT badly. The owner of the 997TT Intouch also posts here and he confirmed the SL55 eat up the 997TT.

    If the 997TT is driven properly it is physically impossible to outperform it with a SL55

    As far as I remember Intouch1 said here that SL55 was faster from standstill if he did not torque-brake his 997TT TIP. When he used turque-brake start method he smoked SL55.
    Use a search function... Belive me SL55 is not faster at all form standstill then 997TT, manual or TIP version.

    As far as I remember Intouch1 said here that SL55 was faster from standstill if he did not torque-brake his 997TT TIP. When he used turque-brake start method he smoked SL55.

    Kreso, if he posted that I did not see it. As a matter of fact he implied in another post that the SL55 was a faster car in acceleration than the 997TT PERIOD! No qualifiers or should have or would have.

    FWIW, I was surprised by the result because if the SL55 is faster than the 997TT in street performance then it is also faster than the 430. However, we should not forget the 430 is three year old technology.

    SL55/Chrysler that clumsy pig should not be compared to the TT . I have a german magazine that is 2 years old and shows the 996tt beating the SL55. If the SL55 beats the 997TT then what does it do to the F430, we all know the TT spanks the 430 really good

    Guys, I own both an SL 55 and a 997 Turbo Tip.

    There is no comparison. The 997TT blows my SL 55 away! PERIOD! End of discussion.

    Anyone who would a) believe differently or b) argue the point ... is a sports car imbecile!

    Nick, you can stop being so defensive about the 430, it may be 3 yrs old but it is still a CURRENT Ferrari product, it is still in production and as far as I know, Ferrari dealers are still taking orders for the 430. Be it 3 yrs old or 30 yrs old, if it's still in production it is fair game to compare.

    You, as a proud owner of a F430 maybe begs to differs and argue it's not a fair comparison as it makes the 430 looks really bad, it is however a fact of life as the manufacturers do not release new cars at the same time. The staggered product cycle however works both ways, when the F430 replacement appears it will more than likely go back ahead and at least for a year or 2 will be the top dog.

    Is the F430 only 3 years old? The convertible looks so dated with those low tech Fiat roll bars behind the seats.

    The F599 is quite nice though, at least it has the performance and list of equipment to match the price.
