    New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

I had to close the old thread since there were already too many posts.
You can find the old 997 GT2 thread here: http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=224451&an=0&page=0#224451

New semi-official info provided by one of our valued Users and confirmed by our sources:

    997 GT2
    530 HP
    PSM incl. TC
    PASM
Top speed 204 mph (326 kph)
Price tag aprox. 4000-6000 Euro over the price tag of the 996 GT2.

Weight around 130-150 kg lighter than the 997 Turbo.
'Larger' VTG chargers with improved geometry (whatever this means).
No overboost function but launch control.
Apparently no sequantial shifting system yet.
    0-100 kph performance: 3.6 s
    0-200 kph performance: aprox. 11 s
    0-300 kph performance: aprox. 35 s

Now lets the 997 GT2 rumour mill roll...

Please help my memory, how much is that?

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

grazie Christian! this is the beast!

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

    Euro 193000 inkl 16% tax for a fully loaded GT2 MK2.

So, we can expect around Euro 198000 - Euro 200000 with 19% Mwst?

    Hmmm....

I heard nearly 100 kg. (Missing front axle transmission and less series options like PCM, full leather, sound package)

    Exact.

Not so impressive results though.. My modified turbo is faster than this

Not so impressive? Only because you compare this series car with a pimped turbo? Sorry, but the facts are impressive! Ferrari need 620 hp to reach this times! A carrera GT is only less faster! I heard a time of 10..sec for the sprint 0-200 km/h!

0-200kph sub-11 would be impressive indeed. Now if we could get some further detail on the modified VTG setup Porsche is using in the GT2 (which perhaps would be used also in the powerkit), that would be valuable information.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

AWE tuning in the US already has the larger VTG turbos direct from Borg-Warner. It is probably the same units being used in the GT2. Their car is making >560 hp to the wheels on pump gas so far, with 400m acceleration in 11 seconds flat at almost 130mph on street tires. That should tell you how much potential the GT2 has.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

I will be very disappointed if it only saves 50kg over a 997TT. That would make it over 1500kg, which is huge increase from the 996GT2 Mk2 at 1420kg.

The engine and drivetrain/electronics will be awesome though, but I was hoping for only a small weight gain from the 996GT2, as per the GT3 models......

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

Does anybody know what a 997 tt rear bumper weighs? Would be interesting to know how much it adds when people start swapping their GT2 rear bumpers
    -Joost-

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

If they have standard PCCB brakes, sports seats and no rear seats, RWD, only 50kg lighter?

That's bad. I was expecting at least 100kg less.

I was hoping for a price REDUCTION from the 996GT2 price. Just kidding.

The original MSRP for a 996GT2 was $191,700 (from MSN auto). The 996TT was $118,400. The 997TT is $122,900, in increase of 3.8%. That makes the 997GT2 at $198,986. Probably $198,900.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

Good to see PSM incld for safer street use...

But still has likely turbo lag/nonlinearity; archaic 19th-20th century tranny; and non-urban/hill-compatible ground clearance....does anyone actually do any work at P R&D?....is it against union rules?....or have most of the smarter, more innovative engineers at P retired/left????

599 seems like quite the bargain vs 997GT2 when balancing likely one-yr deprec costs vs likely perf data on public roads and daily-useability....

Prob cheaper/more effective to get a 430C/GT3 ?Cup car if one truly wants a track-focused, non-street-legal/compromised car, rather than a confused mongrel like GT2 that's neither adept for track/commuting use...perhaps GT2 trade-in values already reflect this mkt perception...

You can't compare the Cali poseur market with the rest of the world. Used GT2s cost quite a fortune here. Also, I hardly find a manual transmission to be archaic, it is the only way to truly be connected to the car.

These rumors, Rc, posted are now facts in a matter of a few minutes? Let's wait and see some test figures before claiming anything to be fact.

0-200kph in ~11s could mean as much as 11.9 sec. which would not be impressive at all. But, who knows.

0-300kph is definately not impressive. Good, but not impressive.

    0-100: 3sec
    0-200: 9.5sec
    0-300: 28 sec

    ???

The times RC posted are very impressive. What can you expect much better. Even if the real times a little worse than RC's post still it is impressive.

He mentioned that it is only a little bit lighter than Turbo. That means it is heavier than the old one right?

We are talking about a 530hp 1500kg car. The times RC posted-or even if the official real times slighlty worse than RC's post, i think that performance is enough for a 530hp 1500kg car.

    Just my 2 cents

Disagree. 0-300 km/h in 35 seconds is Murcielago and CGT territory. Very impressive numbers, provided that they are accurate. How many other production cars are there today that can match such performance? OK, you have the 599, the LP640, but what else? The G SL takes over 40 seconds, as do the F430 and the Z06. And honestly, I'm not sure most of us would be able to handle much more performance anyway.

    Yes,

I am keen to compare the GT2 VTG to tuners' hardware to see if there are differences on the impeller and/or compressor sides. I also wish to hear of the other tweaks to the GT2 hardware that might find their way to the 997TT-PK/S.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

GT2 will most likely excell in the 0-200kmph especially if weight reduction is closer to the 100kg that KF alluded to.

But for 0-300, it cant compete with 599 and lp640 simply due to hp difference (90-110hp difference!) It's a sheer matter of physics, not engineering.

These specs are very impressive imo. The glaring negative of the 996mk2 seems to have been addressed (lack of PSM) while the performance is up to keel with what we expected from 997 Biturbos. Now we wait for the full report/aesthetic representation...

If not, then there are pretty powerfull trucks out there that can schlep 997 GT2 without any problem...

With most likely more than 560hp, 35 sec. to 0-300 is not impressive, but, just good. Any longer would be dissapointing. 0-200 needs to be in the low 11's.

560 to the wheels? I sincerely doubt that AWE has the same turbochargers (how can a third party get turbochargers which were designed for a specific manufacturer, which funded the development?). I would wager that the AWE car is going to be much faster than the GT2 (probably sub-30 to 300 km/h). If we speculate that the car will have a real 550 bhp, that time strikes me as pretty impressive.

Yes for a pure track hardcore car it seems heavy.

However for a regular 1500kg these numbers are good.

But if 997 GT2 shows the similar performance like 997TT(2secs better than old one) on track it would be a real dissapointment regarding the Porsche improvements on track.

I think best thing is to wait and see.

Re: New 997 GT2 - Semi Official Info?

The GT2 will be underrated and very limited.
