It is less of a complain rather than frustration. But as long as other manufacturers build the cars people want and that Porsche doesn’t want to produce (thank you Ferrari for the California!)

If frustration, then yes, I hear you!Smiley

Yes, Ferrari California is a good car, and I almost bought one.  But you seems a bit biased towards Ferrari though.

I have 2 complaints (I mean frustration) about California or any new Ferrari - 1. no manual transmission, 2. too expensive Smiley

    RE:  the California

and to this viewer, quite frustratingly unattractive, but then this viewer never wanted 4 seats in a GT3....  4 seats seems more useful and convenient with 4 doors [and legroom]?  The first time the need for 4 doors came up around here....  the solution was a 500E,  constructed by.....  and recently there are some excellent handling 4 door rockets available.

Does anyone put the hammer down as hard as it can be hammered in a 2018 GT3 with their young children in the back?

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

I gct onfirmation today for a Jan build and late Feb early March delivery. PTS w/ a few CXX options. Wife and I looked at the Cali T but It didn’t fit with our use. I did lease a S550.cab which has served very well as it can take 4 adults to dinner and provides the right counterpoint to our Porsches.

Four adults in the S coupé is really tight... but I like the car in general kiss

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Just had my Euro Delivery cancelled - providing a 991.2 Turbo as a loaner instead.  Some problem with German registration of N. American market cars at this time.

Still get GT3 track experience in Leipzig, get to see my car, and get to track the Turbo with full insurance, etc.

Pretty short notice - appointment in Leipzig on Monday...

Yes, that is nice.  And the car will have no battle scars.  And Turbo will be better in the wet (street tires and AWD).  Might have to check how that launch control works too Smiley

Dissapointing, but as you mentioned, AWD turbo experience should be good

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

    things happened for a reason.

I actually think it is not such a bad idea.  There will be plenty of time to drive your GT3 later on.

Now just enjoy the turbo.  You will not worry to drive it very fast, or park it anywhere.  A bonus.

It’s official name is lindgrun code 226.  Unofficially it’s chartreuse.  Graham Rahal took delivery of a 911R in this color which was approved about a year or so ago.

    Grant,

Sucks to hear that. Are you staying at Steingenberger in Leipzig?

For Launch Control, in any Porsche it's as simple as nail the brakes, nail the throttle, when Lunch Control shows on the display, let go of the brake and hang on!

Also, hope they let you drive the long course at Leipzig, normally they cut off part of it for for Cayenne and Panamera validations.

Thanks, Nick.  Yes, staying at Steigenberger (free with upgraded room due to miscue).  Looking forward to the Leipzig track (and Spa & Ring).

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Found a little concerning post on Pistonheads :

Just curious, spoken to one or two with manuals and they are a little disappointed, in comparison to the pdk version they drove previously.

Reports that the car seems a little 'dialled back' compared to pdk. The engine spools and changes so quickly with the pdk, less so with the manual possibly to protect engine. Interesting.

    Some other guy responded :

It's a given it will be down tuned

The PDK car was tuned to work with RWS and the e-diff from the off.

The manual was an after thought, has less RWS angles and no e-diff so it's a totally different tune in the manual car.

Hence why the performance figures are so far apart from PDK to Manual this time, normal it's a 2 or 3 tenths loss on the GT3 PDK vs manual you go from 3.4 seconds down to 3.9 seconds.

    [...]

Can the manual cars really be down tuned ? Surely 911R owners, who have driven a 991.1 GT3 RS, can chime in and share their experience comparing PDK and manual yes

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

    3/10th vs 5/10th

Just human reaction alone will account for that difference.

A shift in a PDK is 1/10th of a second or less, a shift with a manual is 5/10th even with the best shifters.

Might as well reply to that guy that yes Porsche detuned the manual version of the car to 350HP only, he should be very very happy with that reply

3 seconds at Nordschleife is not indicative of it being dialed back much...

Lol wait, you can't get pdk in the touring model?

No, the Touring is designed for people who wanted a 911R but couldn't get one.

I'm afraid this is exactly the reasoning behind the fact that it is available with manual only.

PDK could still come though...the last word hasn't been spoken yet (according to rumors). Apparently they need the whole PDK S production for the upcoming GT3 RS and the current GT3 (which sells very well).
