RC gets the 911 perfectly, his taste and preferences have just moved away from the 911, which is normal we don't always look for the same things all the time, he will likely come back to the 911 later on eventually again, as well as to other sporstcars. That is not your case.

The whole point about 911s is (1) Rear engine (2) 2+2 seating (3) follows function (4) wide haunches (5) no straight lines (6) upright windscreen for excellent visibility (7) every day useability (8) boxer engine (9) evolution in design NOT revolution.... , in no particular order. Means design Brief is what it is and the car essentially designs itself each and every generation. I like the similarities and the common thread through 50 + years of cars so the 992looks like a fine continuation of this

Well put SmileySmiley. The 911 is quite simply the most important and greatest sports car of all time.

What do these things have to do with interiors that are dated and used in every single Porsche model under the sun? Porsche just laughs all the way to the bank as they give you a $150K car with the same interior as a $50K car. It's not because it makes sense or is part of the brand, it's because they know people buy the badge to the point that they don't need to do anything exciting with the interior.

The make nice concepts and then actually delivery boring shit interiors. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 992 ends up with a giant Panamera center console and screen, more or less just crammed in there.

I'd be perfectly happy with an ever more plain interior.  I'm glad the the extra money is going to purchase the greatest NA Flat-6 ever made for a production car, a great manual gearbox, and all of the other performance equipment.  The only part of the interior that concerns me are the great LWB seats and the climate controls.  And I hope the interior doesn't rattle - that does bother me (my 996.2 C2 was really bad in this respect).

Looks like active aero in the front under the lights. In one frame the flaps are open others they are closed. There is no other rear engine sports car. After 54 years the car does not and should not change much. If someone thinks it is boring I would not suggest waiting around for long waiting for it to change to your liking. It will clearly never do that and I'm happy about that. I like it just the way it is.

i like Porsche interiors, actually think they are the best in the business. i like the old interior of my 993 4S where i can touch the dash with my hand when it is resting on the top of the steering wheel, but i also like how things have modernized as well and think the latest interiors are designed by people who are proschephiles and have designed them to be how they would want them to be. only slight improvement could be a HUD.

Me too - don't want to feel like I'm playing a video game.  Porsche VDO Analog gauges always look good - digital ones age poorly like this Aston Martin Lagonda (that cost over $200k 30 years ago)

The most important aspect of a digital panel--cash flow.

Porsche used to be able to charge just once for colored dials.  With PAID (Porsche Active Instrument Display) they can charge for every background color, font and display option.

Smiley I still like the 911 a lot and don't think there are many alternatives. In my opinion, there are no alternatives to the GT3 and GT3 RS for example. Audi could have made one (using the excellent racing basis R8...it shares over 51% of parts with the LMS racing version, which is more than Porsche GT3 models share with their racing parts Smiley) but since they didn't seem to care and now VW Group put a lid on the R8, the GT3/RS are without any competition. The Huracan Performante is an exotic, it could be a competitor but in a different price range I'm afraid. Again, VW Group wants to keep the cars separate (from a model policy point of view), so...

AMG GT-R? Very nice offer from AMG, indeed but I still would opt for a GT3/GT3RS instead...or a Huracan Performante. N/a engines offer something turbo charged engines will never provide...throttle response and a general responsiveness of the engine which is just amazing fun.

So yes, I am still into the 911 but I'm afraid Porsche doesn't build the one 911 I would want now...a GT2 RS with AWD, a 700 hp n/a engine and the interior of the 992. Smiley Smiley

The front of the 992, as shown in the pictures above is not very attractive, active aero or not.

The front grilles are too large and overwhelm the face of the car, which was traditionally very clean.

I hope that with the GT3-like Sports Apron it will look better.

Also, the 911 is growing too big. This might aid high speed stability but it spoils the looks and it has zero effect on accommodation. The 997 was the ideal size and best proportioned IMO.

They have no choice I afraid. Crash regulations, new engine tech, new comfort requirements, many 911 drivers request certain drive assist systems (no kidding!), there is room needed for front axle lifts, rear axle steering, advanced turbo tech, maybe even hybrid tech soon, etc. etc. etc..

It was funny: I parked my R8 next to a AMG GT-S at my Mercedes dealer and I wish I had taken a photo of both one next to each other. My R8 looked tiny in comparison to the GT-S. My son asked if the car has shrunk (no kidding). Smiley

I find that the best proportioned 991 model is the GT3 especially the 991.2.

The wing somehow helps the visual distribution of the masses.

The 991 Carrera models sometimes look oddly-proportioned, depending on colour.
