Well that official announcement from Porsche states it was regular MPSC2 tyres.

standard N-spec Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2

True but since they could use a newer compound mixture... Smiley

did you like the sound, i mean when compared to the GT3RS, say?

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Does the GT2RS have the same suspension as the GT3? If so, I'd like to have the same setup in mine devil

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

No way those are the same Cup2 tires that they sell today.

What makes you say that?  They are very sticky once up to temp, and they had the tyres in heater tents.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

I recently ran my 99GT3RS at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the GP course at a Porsche Club HPDE.

The tires were Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 with late 2016 mold dates, freshly installed with no prior heat cycles.

The only banking help was in right turns ... accounting for the asymmetry in lateral forces recorded.

The MPSC2 sticks pretty darn well!

I passed at Manthey last month for a little upgrade Smiley. Are you going all the way with their suspensions ?

I'm going to discuss if anything is needed in there opinion when I see them, but in October my main focus is on my own driving skills, doing the Porsche racing experience that they handle. kiss

Hate when people have supercars, but no skills, so will do everything I can to make sure I can use the "Monster" in a proper wayblush

Later this autum I'm thinking of going down to Porsche exclusive to see what could be done in customizing the car and at the same time hopefully have some good input from Manthey. But from what I've heard so far, the car is quit good "as is". A step or two tougher then the GT3 RS and closer to the Cup car settings (as far as possible for a road car anyway).

But my GT3 is optimized regarding camber and some other stuff, so I guess some modification will be needed on this car as well. But the GT3 has been going hard. One change of the engine (blowed the engine on Spa last year) three times change of front  pads, one time back pads and this week I had to change the front discs. THAT was not cheap, since I have cheramic breaks....mail But since I will drive Spa next week, it was a good thing I noticed it now. Spa without breaks is not to recommend. The new engine still drinks enormous amounts of oil, so let's hope it will hold together this year....yes

They will find many things to improve , don't worry . Their list is long and they like to sell Smiley

Your comment on having to change the ceramics is very informative as I always hesitate to order them , but then stick to steels as I do not want to pay a change of ceramic breaks . And obviously they are still not good enough to endure track , even if some people say they are fine ........

Basic stuff . Alignments , hight ,  bend of the back arches as on the RS the tires touches , they added a piece of rubber on the suspensions so to make the last bit more progressive , they set the back wing to the max downforce ,  they put the diffusor of the R  to increase downforce , took the mesh out .....

Tires: If I remember correctly the GT2RS comes with the new MPSC2 N2-tire. So yes it is a different compound then the tire that came with the 991.1RS.
Dunlop has also been involved in the teting of the car so assuming there will be an Dunlop tire too.

And I'm hoping the new N2 will fit my 991.1RS for even more fun :)

I had all this done as well recently, just be careful with rear arches as on mine they did not heat them enough so I needed touch up paint on the lower inside part of the fender. Addtionally due to the massive camber and less toe in the car gets quite unstable from 280km/h on and the rearwing setting acts like a parachute in the higher speed range. For track use perfect, with mixed road uae less so.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

Amazing result. I wonder what time would the 918 achieve with 2018 tire technoiogy?

I am aware of the possibility that the paint cracks . I discussed it prior with my dealer and retcons that about one out of two will crack . But did I have a choice ? Either the tire touch the arches or I bend them . I had to bend them . I actually think this should be fixed by Porsche as it is a conception mistake . My dealer did ask Porsche to have it fixed on my car  but I never had a clear answer back .

The back wing does even sound like a parachute now Smiley  I very very rarely hit 280 km/h or more . And if i do it is for just a few seconds as highways are always way too crowded . The place where I drive the fastest is on the Ring , on the straight at Dottinger Höhe.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 GT2 RS (2017)

On the GT2 RS the modified the arches already from the factory to avoid the rubbing. The paint would not crack if Manthey heated it up properly btw. And there was a bulletin from Porsche to redo the arches. Apparently they now also have a different type of rear damper for the RS so the bumpstops from Manthey would not be needed anymore.

Tires and brakes are in my opinion the most important parts of a car... (of course you need an engine to produce power and a steering wheel to steer the car but you get my point).

but on THIS car , its  power gain > cornering  in the net ring  time improvement ...mostly via stronger accel after corner exit and higher terminal speeds on straights ...and when compared to the coming " slower time " 991.2 GT3RS , the latter  will , predictably , be near universally proclaimed to be more feelsome, alive and exiting to listen to at its circling of tracks at similar max driver effort

    something for everyone !
