Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

I used to love the alum look and would go crazy with it in the configurator, but then something click in my mind: IT's not real aluminum, it's just painted plastic, Porsche probably make the most off this option. So I'd either stick with leather or CF, they are more expensive but at least in my mind I know leather and CF are not cheap to begin with, and I am actually getting something that's worth something.

Another point you might want to consider if you get the aluminum look steering wheel, if you wear rings the aluminum look part might get scratched.

Attached is mine with stone grey interior.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Here is another shot of Midnight in bright sunlight while you wait for the car.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Congratulations! I would add illuminated stainless steel entry guards.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Midnight/cocoa is the combo I would go for too.

Great choice. AS for alu, I'm not convinced either. Carbon fiber might not be great with cocoa, so I' d try full leather.

My advice, stick with the combo you always go back to. From what you wrote, I bet you're like me, always switching after a while, always considering somthing else. So take what you truely want - and that's what the combo you keep going back too, no matter how you feel right now.

    Good luck,

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Whoops is right about scratching....it's mostly painted material. But rings will damage leather too. I have now gotten in the habit of removing my wedding band when I take the seat in the Porsche. After I noticed a few scratches in my full leather thicker 3-spoker, that was the culprit.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Upon reflection following the extremely valid points-of-view on this and other boards, I have updated my spec a little:

    • Manual Transmission
    • Midnight Blue Metallic
    • Leather interior in black - saves a little money and also I am hearing stories of other OPCs saying cocoa results in Pounds5k less resales value!
    • Rear axle-differential lock - would rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it!
    • Thicker three-spoke multi-function steering wheel - moving more towards leather and less towards fake aluminum
    • Rear centre console in leather - I think the most classy option
    • Gear lever and handbrake lever in aluminum - still thinking about this one
    • PCCB
    • Sport Chrono Package Plus
    • Sport shifter
    • Adaptive sports seats
    • Heated seats
    • Windscreen with grey top tint
    • Electric slide/tilt sunroof
    • ParkAssist (parking aid rear)
    • Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS)
    • Telephone module
    • Floor mats
    Much like the following:

Ouch, this is getting an expensive obsession...

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

In terms of leather options, i think it is good to try and get rid of the plastic and not go overboard for the sake of resale value. Your spec sounds great however. Good job on your research. Let us know if you have any more questions....

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

    Alex,

Do you know If the brown (what is the official Name anyway?) will be available For the non-turbo's??
    (and when??)

    thanks,
    k

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Natural brown you mean or coacoa?

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

    Sorry, I was not clear...

no I mean the brown exterior color (the one the turbo cab is presented in!)

Do you mean exterior paint colour?

I would assume it will be available for all MY08 997s. It looked to me to be in the 'metallic colours' section and not the 'special colours' section indicating it won't be quite as expensive.

There were a few extra colours both exterior and interior - I am trying to get a complete list from my OPC.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

    thanks Alex!

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

I ordered the same exterior color, ex pccb, with the natural brown leather interior. I will post some pictures when I get it early in June - just as a teaser.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

There you go - if you want to know colour options for MY08 then go to the new Porsche Car Configurator and select the Turbo Cabriolet!

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

BTW, I know how much you love your cab. Just wondering whether you were tempted to go for a TT Cab?

I do love my current Cab, you are right

However, the new Turbo Cab just doesn't appeal to me, mainly for aesthetic reasons. I can put up with big side air scoops and fixed rear spoilers on the coupe because it is a focused fast car. The TT Cab looks far too busy. My current C2S Cab is better looking IMHO than the TT Cab.

Then there is the cost of the thing. I am already spending more than I was prepared to for a fully spec'ed coupe. And a similar spec'ed TT Cab is pushing into Gallardo/F430 money!

The TT Cabriolet may be 'best of all worlds', but one thing I know for sure: a jack of all trades does indeed mean a master of none...

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

UPDATE: This is my latest spec, the longer I wait, the bigger the list seems to get!

    911 Turbo
    Cobalt Blue Metallic 56
    Leather interior in black AT
Windscreen with grey top tint 567
    Electric slide/tilt sunroof 650
    ParkAssist (parking aid rear) 635
    Side skirts XAJ
    Sport Chrono Package Plus 640
    Sport shifter XCZ
    Rear axle-differential lock 220
    Manual Transmission R01
Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) 450
    19 inch Turbo wheels, forged, two-tone 404
    Adaptive sports seats P01
    Heated seats 342
Rear section of center console in leather XMZ
Three-spoke multi-function steering wheel in smooth leather (only with PCM) 431
Gear lever and handbrake lever in aluminium ECA
Porsche Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) T91
    Telephone module 666
Thicker three-spoke multi-function steering wheel in smooth leather (only with PCM) CPA
Slats on air ducts aluminum look CDA
Front lip spolier in exterior colour CNE
Lower moulding on rear apron in exterior colour CNG

Anyone know if the CDA option comes with leather surround?

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

I think CDA does have the leather surround - this is a photo posted in another thread:

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Yes I have that pic also as a reference.

My concern is that CDA is on top of 'Leather package switch panel' EAA as seen above.

Last thing I want is a standard silver air vent then with alu painted slats.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

No, I think it has the leather surround around the slats. If you go on the German configurator you can see all the options on the exclusive section.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Thanks, yes, the leather assumption was taken from the Germany Configurator picture of the option. I just wanted to make sure though.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

That last pic is my car.

The aluminum slats will give you the leather trim around the vents.

You WILL need to order the 'dash trim strip' in leather if you don't want it to be aluminum.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

    Many thanks for the clarification.

I think it looks ok with the alu horizonal strip though...

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

...let's see if I can reach a 1000 posts before I pick the car up

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

    Alex,

That's excellent news - nice Xmas pressie from Porsche.

I saw a Meteor TT yesterday at the OPC, and a basalt black. Needless to say that I will now be changing my order to black (and adding the LSD). Does the change of colour or LSD delay production?

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

    Alex,
The cobalt blue is awesome. You will love it! I know you struggled with color choice. For what it is worth I have owned many white, silver and black cars. The TT in cobalt blue is a standout without being gaudy. I am so glad I didn't play it safe.

Re: New Turbo: took the plunge!

Hard to say much right now. Pretty much speechless for a change.

    The car is simply UNBELIEVABLE!!

Stunning outside looks, stunning inside looks, and totally spectacular drive (even keeping it under 4000 rpm!!).

Night and day between the new Turbo and my old C2S Cab. The Carrera just doesn't come anywhere close in any department.

This car is perfect for me. So much so that I am even thinking of not putting HRE wheels on or a Sports Exhaust. It's just perfect the way it is now.

Will report more in detail after the shock has dissipated a little. Sufficed to say though, I love each and every option I put on the car (for example I didn't realize the alu gearstick has 2 big slats all the way through the middle so you can see to the other side).

In the meantime, here are some initial pics (not too great as weather/light wasn't very good today).

    Spec:

    911 Turbo
    Arctic Silver Metalic X1
    Leather interior in black AT
    Rear axle-differential lock 220
    Heated seats 342

Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB) 450
Windscreen with grey top tint 567
    ParkAssist (parking aid rear) 635
    Sport Chrono Package Plus 640
    Electric slide/tilt sunroof 650
    Telephone module 666
Slats on air ducts aluminum look CDA
Thicker three-spoke multi-function steering wheel in smooth leather (only with PCM) CPA
