The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

I finally parted with my m3 and now i have to make a choice. I love the looks of the aston martin, but from what ive read it compares no where near to the 911s as far as performance, but i wont ever track the car so i could give a lil in that department. it wont be my daily driver but i want a good car that i could "love long time" all opinions would be great

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

    A very tough decision.

If the 911 you are considering is not a Turbo or GT3, go for the Aston.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

the gt3 is a beast but i really would never track the car so i feel that i would have the sadest gt3 on the planet, and the turbo spec'ed out it is a bit more than i want to spend

    That's a bit exagerated.
Yes the 911 S performs better. But where are you going to drive?
I would take the AM experience over the extra 911 S performance.

Have you driven both? This might veer your decision one way or the other.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

If you are not a performance head, I think the Aston offers a plethora of intangibles that the 911s lacks.
I would be hard pressed between a gt3 and a AMv8, but not between the c2s...

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Agreed, price wise, you should choose between a GT3 (ie performance) or a Vantage (ie everything else).

Last point, if you like F1 style trannies, the AM with the Sportshift might win you over.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

I have the same thought as Moogle.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

i know i would've said 911 without a doubt but then two days ago this brandnew Aston showed up! omg i was blown away. it was dark grey with orange interior, and what a fantastic car that is. so rare and beautiful! i'd say go for sure as every ride in that thing will be a cumfest. the sound alone is magnificent.

911s are just too common over here. everyone has one.

    just my two cents..

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

IMHO, an AMV8 provides about 90% to 93% of a 911's performance but 150% in the looks/exclusivity department.

It comes down to this. The AM has adequate performance and great looks. The 911 has great performance and adequate looks. Which attribute is more important to you? I would take it over a 911.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Here is a pic of the two to help you make your decision. BTW we went with the Aston....and it was defently the richt choice!

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

    take AM!!!

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

The Aston is about 20K more as well...just food for thought

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Go 911, take the S X51 ! Personalize the looks and make it look like no 911 you've ever seen!

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Sensible bit... only you can decide and you need to drive both

    Not so sensible...

I was in the same position, even had the offer of a cancelled 997 Turbo. Drove both - had to admit that the 997 was the better 'car' by far, but for my driving I'd never use half of it and the Aston was all the car I would ever need (for the next 6 months anyway ) Therefore the 'ownership experience' came to the fore, and the Aston won hands down - finish, noise, looks etc. So I'm now the proud owner of a Vantage - and haven't regretted it one bit. Although I'm sure I'll have another Porsche one day....

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

That is my 997 up there with jcparki's Aston. I have to admit, I have been looking at AMV8 since! May pick one up.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Seems to me like you're making an 'on paper' comparison and decision. As others here have said, you really need to drive each alternative and base your decision on the car that 'does it for you' on the road. After all, you don't enjoy your car 'on paper'!

There are other alternatives too: Jaguar XK8 & XKR, Audi R8, BMW (M3, M5, M6), Maserati, Merc SL, CLS, CL to name a few.

All I say is that, to me, the 911 is an addictive car. Once it's under your skin, it's hard to like anything else (apart from a Ferrari, a Pagani or a Lamborghini).

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Buy a 911, i cant stress enough how much i dislike AM's looks, drove a DB9 and really hated it, just couldnt get along with it one bit, it reminded me of a ford with lots of leather. The 911 has something that NO other car has, plus its cheap AND more reliable. just my thoughts though and each to there own hehe

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Just taking a step back here. Have you ever asked yourself what the attraction is about an Aston Martin?

IMHO people choose an Aston because (1) they like its looks, (2) it's a prestigious and exclusive brand, (3) for some Brits, it's a way of buying a classy, 'historically British' car (even though it's being sold off by Ford to Prodrive?), (4) it's pretty fast and powerful, (5) it's pretty good quality, and, last but not least, (6) James Bond drives one.

I can't argue with any of these reasons. If this car ticks all the right boxes, then go for it.

Would I buy an Aston? No, it just isn't me. It's a pretty car made by a company which is not exactly financially secure and which doesn't know who will own it next. Aston haven't won any races AFAIK.

But, what actually puts me off is the 'James Bond wannabee' aspect. Still, to each his own...

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

I like the looks of the aston martin, just because its such a beautiful car, but i love the history of porsche and how it is such a great car, ill be test driving both some time this week and that will be the deciding factor.

i may just go for a turbo and pay the extra money and make my decision an easy one

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

I'm sorry for the amv8(because it has the best looks !!), but i would go definately for the 997S, or even a 997(both with PSE though )

If then you are deciding between 997turbo/997gt3 or amv8, if its going to be your 2nd-3rd car in the garage, no doubt I'd go for the porsche way....again , I mean you are buying the best sportscar in the world (997 gt3 ), I dont know how could you ask this question!!!!

I also have to add for the good of the amv8, that I prefer the sound of the am rather than the stock one of the 997turbo, but that's just something we all know !

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

911S would be more daily based and easy car , probably handling better , performance slightly better.

BUt IMO AM is more special looking car than 911S. Get the Aston and do the prodrive package (remember as 415hp). And these
    Astons are too loud.

AM would be a little more fun than 911S , however as a car 911 is more solid.

    I agree with moogle.

And let's be honest here, everyone is a james bond wannabe to a certain extent. So much of this is self image, otherwise everyone would buy used cars.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

Can only add , if not the turbo go for the AM with sportshift ! Great combo on that car.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

Get the AMV8 and you'll sell it within a years time. Does anyone keep the AMV8 longer than a year? Why is that?

Have you even looked at the used cars for sale lately?
It doesn't matter what country....there will be hundreds of porsche's for sale...and maybe...1 or 2 AMV8s. Aston drivers tend to hold their cars for much longer than porsche drivers.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

i would take the aston without the blink of an eye. looks, exclusivity, resale, engine sound. and the drive is really nice, not to talk about the gorgeous dashboard

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911

Buy a Prodrive Aston V8...without the carbon spoiler.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

There is not one ugly line on the Aston. It looks astonishingly beautiful from all angles and I doubt you would ever get tired of looking at it.

As competent as the 997 is, its not visually stellar and there are lots of them around. For the money the 997 looks small, is small and you see them everywhere.

The Aston is a more than competent GT car, and in that role it is ideal. Sounds like what you are looking for.

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

I drove another AMV8 today - I will be getting one. The 997 is a great car and I am sure i will miss it but I am sure I will get another 911 in a few years time, the Aston will be a keeper though

Re: The time has finally come Aston Vantage or 911s

What is your spec Porky? I am in conversation with my Aston dealer right now. What annoys me with them is that there isn't any discount. I am thinking Ghilles Green with anthracite 19's (not sure about interior), or white with bitter brown interior and anthracite wheels. And like you, there will be another 911 for me later on (planning to get 998 GT3 next whenever that happens). Unless something else happens, I think I am getting one also.
