Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

....But this new system only started after Le Mans.

The Fords (rightly so) have gone up by 20Kg from 1253kg to 1273kg and the Aston Martin's got a 20Kg weight break taking them down to 1188kg

Porsche and Ferrari stayed the same.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

I certainly don't want to pick a fight with you as the resident expert on these minute details, but for the next race in Mexico, the Ferrari is at 1273 (plus 5), the Ford at 1271, the RSR at 1258 and the Aston at 1186 (minus 2). The RSR and the AM were given a 0.1 mm restrictor break because of the altitude, which affects NA cars much more than turbos.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

I was giving you the current (Nurburgring) BoP not the one for Mexico.

I am interested to see how 0.1mm restrictor is going to help the non turbo's cope.

The AM weight at 1186 (72Kg lighter than the RSR and 87 Kg lighter than Ferrari) is a prime example of one of the many issues I have with the system. It's a huge weight break that really skews reality.

We never fight. We just have differences of opinion.SmileySmiley

That seems like an extremely modest change, barely worth the effort...

Yes, I'm not convinced it will make a noticeable difference. My money is on Ford. The Mexico market is of huge importance to them. Please excuse the cynicism.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

Porsche on pole 1 and 2, Toyota 3,4.  Six hour race tomorrow.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

Fantastic pole by the LMP1 squad. The RSR is last in GTE-pro. Porsche claims they did not go for times in qual...which is a real indicator that they knew the car did not have the speed. So sad to see.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

RSR running 2nd at 3 hour mark. In LMP1, Porsche 1,2 but Toyota close.  Tire strategy in hot conditions will decide winner.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

Porsche will win 1,2  LMP1.  RSR will place second in GT Pro.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

Tighter race than Porsche expected, after dominating in Mexico.  Porsche led most of the way in LMP1, but Toyota was always within striking distance.  RSR was second and competitive in GT Pro, but did not have the speed to match the winning Ferrari.  Will post some pics tomorrow...

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

Agreed, tighter race than expected in LMP1. In GTE Pro, the RSR never quite had the speed to stay with the leading AM and Ferraris during the early stages and with the winning Ferrari later in the race. Still, not a bad result. But they will have to up their game for 2018 and I am not sure the RSR as a platform has enough potential for that...

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

I don't doubt that Porsche can pass AM next year, but Ferrari is another matter. The racing silhouette of the Ferrari platform seems aerodynamically superior. But I always bet on Porsche, especially the factory teams.

Re: WEC Race in Austin, Texas

    Wonderbar,

I was at the Austin race with my wife and really enjoyed it. Sorry I missed meeting you as I had not read your post until after the race. We were also in the Porsche Hospitality suite and I recognized your son from the pic posted. I'm considering Atl. and will let you know if we attend. It certainly seems that the RSR's were at a power/torque deficit in spite of the BOP provided in Austin. Learning a lot from the discussion on this thread, though it has moved from your original post. Hope to see you at an upcoming race.wink
