    C2 or C4? Advice needed.

    Hi there everyone

    I am currently going through the exciting process of moving from my 987 to a 996. I would like to get some advice from the experts on whether I should go for a C2 or a C4? Is the handling on a cab not as good as on the coupe or is this not necessarily true? Any advice would really be appreciated.

    A C2 is a "real" nine-eleven concept. I think that you need a C2 with PSM and RoW M030 suspension.
    The car would run perfectly.

    A C4 is quite good but it has a very different way to handle at the limit. The c2 version is telling to you every second the feeling to be drived properly and correct the oversteer...
    I prefer C2.

    I do own a 996 C4S a few years ago. I like the handling and traction of C4S, however the AWD was showing a power loose(mine was tiptronic also) at high speeds.But it is very stable at high speeds You can feel it.
    I do also test the C2
    For fun get C2 , C4 for good traction. You are in SA , so no snowy days i guess, get C2 you will like it. Also C2 show slighlty better performance than C4

    Thanks VGA, I think the decision will be C2, i like to have fun, and there is no snow here, only sunshine!!! I am considering the cab for this.

    I've got the C4S - worth getting it for the looks over a C2 if for no other reason the widebody looks awsome - its snows here in NYC which makes the C4S a must if you want to use it properly in the winter.

    That said you can buy a much newer C2 for the same price you could probably trade up 2 years.

    Sounds reasonable..but all the literature I have read suggests that the C4's had a much better engine and the facelift C4 in my opinion looks very very nice...almost 997 nice..

    why did the C4 get a better engine? isn't it the same??? not sure I understand what you litterature you are referring to.

    C4S did not receive a better engine, at least not that I found in my pre-purchase research. You might have run into an X51 that had an improved engine, but that option is available for all 996s (+25 hp).

    C4S is at least 200 pounds heavier than the C2, plus with the draw of pushing 4 wheels instead of 2, you get a significant drop in delivered power. But you get AWD handling, which can be very useful, especially in rain/snow/ice. And, as someone else said, I love the wide-body styling.

    That being said, I'm in San Diego, and I went with the C2. =)

    Speaking only from a 'looks' perspective, the C2 is a narrow body. The C4S with facelifted headlamps is really gorgeous.

    AFAIK C4S is 6cm wider and 1cm lower than regular C2 C4

    I guess Jamesaug is referring to the rumors that PAG intentionally squeezed out some more hp for the 4wd models (not officially of course) to partly compensate for the powerloss in the 4wd drivetrain - not sure whether there has been some truth in this

    IMO: C4= better looks, C2= more driving fun (especially if you're coming from a 987)

    Try all three (C2, C4, C4S) before you decide! Differences in feel and handling between all of them.

    I would take the C4S if you dont care driving 4WD. Since its one of the best looking 911 ever. I personally care, and thats why I would take 2WD, but form todays point of view, espaccaly the anniversary model, with LSD would be the most interesting for me.
    I will never buy again a P or any sportscar without LSD. I had a 996 convertible for almost 6 Years, and thats the only thing I missed way to much on the car. It would have been perfekt with LSD, and I would have kept it.
