    This is highly amusing. Of course I respect your decision not to buy a Cayman in its current form. I myself said previously that "If you don't like it, don't buy it". End of story.

    Like anyone else, you're voting with how you spend (or don't spend) the dollars in your wallet. Quite right too!

    I tend to agree that the Cayman -- in its current form -- is not worth the money. The integrated dry sump I can live with, but the lack of LSD is just unreal for such a car. The Boxster is more honestly marketed as "the sports car among the roadsters," is cheaper, and has top down possibilities. When Porsche gives us a Cayman RS, I would be very interested. The platform has so many possibilites, as so many have noted since its inception; however, it is just not there yet. Contrary to their own expressed intentions, I really think Porsche will come through eventually once they realize how many more sales they will gain from a more focused car. Still, the used market looks like it has corrected for the steep price of Cayman, so with a lower entry fee and a few mods...

    There's a recent thread on www.caymanclub.net about adding a Quaife LSD, complete with install photos, but I don't think a real clutch-type LSD is compatible with PSM...

    I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the LSD made by Farnbacher-Loles is a clutch type. After the Cayman was introduced, I was tempted and called FL and that's what I recall, but it has been a year or so.

    Yeah, you may be right. If true, then I suspect one of the following:

    1. The locking ratio is quite mild in order not to upset PSM (like the 2004 Carrera Anniversary and 997S with -20mm suspension in ROW).

    2. PSM is disabled.

    Most likely #1.

    An aggressive clutch LSD like in the GT3 (40%-60% locking) does not play nicely with PSM...

    Thanks for the explanation, Grant. That's informative. As usual, I am wondering about my next Porsche and the Cayman would make the list if not for the glaring issues that people keep mentioning. My RSA has a Guard LSD, which is really nice, and it's a great traditional Porsche to drive, but still not in the world of handling precision of the later Porsches IMO. I'm thinking about a 04 GT3, perhaps. In all honesty, the Cayman would be more than enough car for my driving skill (or my RSA for that matter), but I just think that car could be more thrilling if it were more focused.

    In a perfect world the porsche line up would have

    boxster
    cayman 350 hp
    997 gt3
    997 tt
    997 gt2
    panamera
    928 version 2
    cgt

    with no entry level 911's.

    But its not a perfect world, so maybe wushuhsu should look at the good old 928. Find a low mile, well cared for one (tough to do) at an inexpensive price, learn how to work on it and your dilemma is solved.

    You get the best engineering porsche ever poured into a production model, the beauty, the exclusivity, the handling, and the SOUND.

    Mine's got LSD, 50-50 weight dist, double wishbones + weissach, aluminum body panels, engine that will last forever .............

    I noticed that you left out the Cayenne - on purpose?

    Nice list! I'd add a couple lightweight specials in there too (one for the Cayman RS that weighs 2,500 lbs w/ LSD and one for the GT3 - one that truly weighs less - around 2,700 lbs)

    No not at all, it just didn't occur to me at the time of writing. I guess i was just thinking cars.

    I think the cayenne is a good idea, just poorly executed. It should be much lighter, more luxury on the inside and a different outside design.

    A 2500 lb Cayman RS -- that would great. And a non-PASM sport suspension that will jar your fillings out, cloth seats, and vinyl interior. With that combination, there will be no fear that the Cayman will cut into 911 sales -- you know, the ones with kangeroo leather sun visors. I am one of the few that think they will do something like a Cayman RS, sooner or later. I am thinking they may not use the "RS" designation, though.

    Wushuhshsushu...you want a mid-engined, dry-sumped, porsche...try the RUF CTR-3:
