    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

If 918 hybrid is still too early for 992, might we see more turbos, also in GT cars, as a temporary solution ? Because how else are they going to fight the strict emission rules?

I think Porsche Motorsports will drive the timeline for turbos in GT cars. With their competitors, including Corvette switching to turbos, I would expect the next generation of the RSR to be turbo and hence the GT cars.

The fact they are struggling with 911 hybrid tells you that the technology shouldn't even be deployed in the Panamera and maybe even on he Cayenne. If they wait 7-10 years they might as well go straight to EV.

The problem with deploying hybrid tech in a 911 is about packaging. Nothing more.

The hybrid technology that Porsche have right now is perfectly fine for bigger cars like Panamera and Cayenne.

The competitors now even reside within the 911 range, like GTS.

It will be interesting to follow where the developpment is heading to at Porsche. The 992 GTS will surely be another rocket.

Gauss - I agree with you on the GTS. I just purchased a GTS and hopefully pick up this weekend.

Size and weight...right. Weight wouldn't be biggest problem indeed but the size is an issue. This is why they may (or will) use it for the 992 Turbo models only.

There will be changes in engine bay room and width/length.

Having testdriven the Panamera 4 e-hybrid for quite some time I would not call it "perfectly fine" Smiley. Rather a disappointment Smiley

For 911 they can probably fit the hybrid tech, but they need to work hard with weight and the battery need to be small with rather low kWh spec.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

The current size of the battery in the Cayenne hybrid is useless. As reported here, it didn’t have enough juice to drive full electric from the time I entered the city center to the garage then back out. And then to recharge the batter over the next 50 mins of highway driving, car used way more fuel than my Macan turbo. The whole thing is useless.

    Re: OFFICIAL: New 991.2 GT3

Yesterday I did another 300km on Swabian country roads with my RS and the car just sticks to the ground and flies at unreal speeds, banging the gears up and down with the PDK, engine screaming, it's intoxicating. Also my recent drive on some Austrian passes almost left me speechless. Despite all that I always have that little nagging doubt how it would feel driving the same roads but with a manual. Don't get me wrong the first time I drove a GT3 with PDK in Spa I was amazed and sold my 997GT3RS afterwards (with the benefit of hindsight that was a mistake as it was just before prices skyrocketed). Then I moved to the Aubergine and still I thought there is something missing. As I mentioned it already a couple of times, driving road cars on track has become obsolete for me mainly due to safety and performance reasons, that car somehow lost its right to exist (for me). So since the rumors of an upcoming Touring Package surfaced I was kind of harassing my dealer constantly to get one in connection with PTS. The lust for PTS already started several years ago though you couldn't not complain about loud colors at least available with RS'. Long story cut short, two weeks ago I got the confirmation of receiving a GT3 with TP and two days ago Porsche Exclusive invited me to Stuttgart in November to custom spec my car. To say I'm over the moon is an understatement. At the same time I will be sad to see my Aubergine go as it is a fantastic car. At the end each to his own and you cannot blame Porsche for cashing in on that.

That would be a first ....... until now all TP wanting PTS have been turned down. Congratulations .Smiley

I have the same sensations and ideas as you on RS PDK   , except that I will not move to a proper track car .

I also often wonder if a GT3 TP would be my '' dream '' 911 for the roads . I love manual in my 964 as I can rev the car to red line very often . In a GT3 on open roads that would be difficult as you would be far far over the speed limits . And the please coming from that engine is mostly after 5'500 rpm .  Not always convinced that car would end up being the dream 911 for open roads as one can not exploit the engine . Smiley

The arrogance of some MT enthusiast is perplexing. They believe that not only are they more mainly by having a MT but they are the best and fastest drivers. In reality, they live in a time warp laughed at by those in the know. All the best performance cars by the best manufacturers (Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini and MB) do not offer MT. Even Porsche refuses to offer MT on its halo cars. Clinking to the past stunts growth and learning. Very sad. surprise

Much more learning to be had with manual.  The opportunity to exercise my learned shifting tasks would be lost with PDK.  Seems like PDK that handles more functions for the driver would be more responsible for stunted growth, not the reverse.  What kind of growth do you expect from using an excellent automatic gearbox?
