    UK pricing

A few more questions for F430 owners if I may:

Are UK F430 buyers able to negotiate on price successfully?

Also, what depreciation might I expect with 6,000 miles over 12 months of ownership on a 1 year old car?

Do extras really hold their price as dealer would have me believe?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

    Re: UK pricing

Negotiate - probably only if the car is on SOR

Depreciation - hard call to make

Extras - the extras never hold their value imo
This is where it is important to know how long you are wanting to keep the car. If you want to change car in 6 months time, buy a low spec one.
However if it's a car you are looking to keep then get CC brakes and race seats

    Re: UK pricing

Dealer advises only 10k depreciation in 12 months which if true is excellent.

    Re: UK pricing

They wouldn't move on price but I did manage to squeeze an extra 2k out of the dealer for my C2S part exchange. I asked my dealer the exact same question on depreciation and, whilst he was reluctant to give me any specific figures he did give me the usual sales schpiel that the car will hold its value better than anything else on the market due to relative shortage of supply, Kinda strange seeing as there were 3 other 430's on the forecourt at the time . My philosophy was that whatever happens I am probably going to lose a relatively large amount of money over the 6-12 months I plan to keep the car; but it's a small price to pay for the sheer fun I'm going to have. At 29 my friends think I'm a bit crazy for having spent well over Pounds100k on a car but buying a Ferrari isn't something you can rationalise. I was originally going to get a 997GT3 and as great as that car is once I'd taken the 430 out for a test drive I simply had to have it!

On the depreciation front, I'm expecting anything from 10-20k over 6 to 12 months.

    Re: F430 pricing in RoW

I wish nberry would read this thread. What you've all said is what one would expect of a F430 in a 'normal' used car market situation. If the car market is manipulated, as in the USA, no wonder Ferrari used car prices are artificially high.

Simply appalling that Ferrari has managed this in North America. There must be some form of federal competition authority that regulates against anti-competitive practices?

I'm no expert on these matters but the situation in the USA stinks to me...

    Re: F430 pricing in RoW

On a F430 it would be stupid to lose money at yet at this stage....

    10K it's a lot of money....imho

    Re: F430 pricing in RoW

If you want to know how much money you'll lose phone around a couple of dealers and speak to the used car buyer giving him the spec of the car you are interested in then adjust the mileage to take account of what you think you'll do in the car and adjust it's age by the 6 or 12 months you intend to keep it. So if you are looking at an 06 that has 4k miles for instance and you intend to keep it for 12 months and do another 6k miles in it, call a dealer and offer them the car for sale as if it were an 05 with 10k miles on the clock. I did that 2 years ago on a 360 I was keen to buy and the resulting bids put me off buying the car at all. I was looking at a purchase price of Pounds80k and the best bid I could attract on the car was Pounds63k which was just to big a hit to contemplate in a worst case sale scenario. Part of the problem was colour (the car in question was black with tan leather and looked fantastic to me but is not a sought after combo) so it helps to do homework like this to get a feel for where things may end up when the time comes to move the car on.

I agree with most of what you write. However, with respect to options a well optioned Ferrari will sell better than a bare bones Ferrari. Buyers in the Ferrari market like the CF, shields leather etc. They shy away from base equipped models.

I do not agree with the others that believe the US market is manipulated. If I am not mistaken, the same percentage of cars are shipped to the US by both Ferrari and Porsche. The reason for the huge difference in resale value between Porsche and Ferrari is branding. EVeryone in the US knows that Porsche is not a limited production car and the have several look alike models. Ferrari is limited production with one one mid-engine car.

    Also, US buyers know cars.

    Re: UK pricing

Nick, if you want limited production, buy Lambo or Aston. Ferrari is mass produced by comparison.

Wait a little bit and this is no longer valid, at least in case of Lamborghini.

    Re: UK pricing

And Aston too, they plan 7,000 cars for 2008 MY.

Doubt governmental authorities anywhere should waste their finite time/efforts to "protect" guys considering $200K+ discretionary cars....

Even in "manipulated" US F mkt, doesn't take all that much shrewdness to figure out how to get an early, latest-tech new F@MSRP....need to remember that prob 90%++ of guys w/resources in US (or anywhere) really are disinterested in any cars, so lim competition from many buyers w/substantive resources ....it's the same, simple game as getting a desirable table on short notice at FrenchLaundry/FatDuck/PerSe, etc.

Besides, given that houses in Lond's WEnd (despite dubious HVAC systems ) cost 2x what comparable (but latest-tech ) houses in NYC/SF cost, I doubt relative cost of new F ownership is only area where US is much cheaper than EU....would suspect NYC/SF's overall cost of living (esp high-end houses/cars, etc) is roughly 50% cheaper than Lond's....

BTW, agree whole-heartedly that US F mkt is cleverly "managed" by F....US gets only 30%ish of global F produc, but buys 65%ish of global 65 produc....and absorbed some 55%ish of global CGT produc....suspect if US received 65% of global F produc, F would have similar one-yr trade-in value (some 60% of MSRP) to 65s, as the resale value Ponzi scheme would quickly unravel and many cash-poor poseurs would disappear....i.e., would be really hard to distinguish F from Lambo on a resale value/hard-to-get basis in US mkt....will be interesting to see if globalization will soon produce similar one-yr trade-in values for 599 (or coming 430CS/Enzo 2.0) in Lond vs MC vs Munich vs Greenwich vs SF....
