    Is Direct Injection a possible upgrade for 997

    Does anyone know if it will be possible to increase power in your current 997 with a direct injection mod. . In other words can you just order the parts for direct injection that will be in the facelift 997 and swap out the old fuel injection ?

    I guess anything is possible but I would not do it. I'm sure you would not have any warranty unless porsche comes out with the mod. Why not send an email to PNA and ask if they plan on offering anything like this. All they can say is no. If they do it would not void your warranty.

    Anything can be done (unless Porsche refuses to sell the parts).

    BUT Porsche retrofits follow this formula:

    Estimate amount you'd pay but would be very pi**ed about having to pay.

    Multiply that amount by three to get actual cost of retrofit.

    MMD, your calculation only applies to the North American market where Porsches are cheaper! You forgot the final step: add 50% more for the RoW markets where prices aren't heavily discounted!

    The answer to your question is NO. The direct injector fits into the cylinder head. The way it is now set up the fuel is delivered into the intake runners and through the intake valves. You would need the high pressure pump, a new injector system, new cylinder heads probably a new ECU to control the injectors, replace the old intake system and nobody-not even Porsche makes these modifications. Even if they do in the future, for 10-15% more HP you would wind up paying a bunch for it. Probably $15,000 if it would even work. It would be cheaper to buy a new GT3 engine!! But don't worry. It will never be able to be retrofitted without alot of work and money..

    Even if you could do it , total outlay would include the cost of eating the $$$ loss on a vehicle which may have no buyer later . I'e., is it worth $80K for 20 more hp ?
