    F1 UK TV coverage...

Like many on here I really enjoy F1 especially this season as its turning into a classic with the rookie hamilton shaking up the more established boys!!!

Anyway, to my complain and question... As much as I love watching F1, my enjoyment of it is ruined by the poor ass coverage on ITV... My main issue here is the fecking adverts!!!!! I really cant believe that they think it is acceptable to leave the action for 2-3 minutes to try and sell me stuff I dont need... I pretty much have to leave the room each time as I get so worked up!!!! In fact If I was one of these companies I would not want my product in these slots as it pisses of the majority of the people who are watching, ie F1 fans!!!! Muppets!!!!

The thing that really anoys me is that the adverts start with a thing telling us were watching F1, then F1 on ITV and then we get a little clip to tell us this was brought to us by HOnda... Now we get the 2-3 minute adverts and back to the Honda, F1 ITV, F1 bit again..... What as If I could ever have forgot who was kind enough to bring me F1........

Thankfully the next race is some time off so I get to cool down again and get back to my question....

Whats the coverage on SKY like??? Can I get F1 on eurosport or anything and if so do they have adverts???
Someone please tell me there is a way out of this pain!!!!!!!

    Tar very much

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

I was in Seville for the weekend when the Australian GP took place. What I loved is that, even though the ads came, they didn't occupy the whole TV screen. There were 2 windows. One bigger one with the ads but also a smaller one with the continuing F1 action. It's so easy (and obvious). But in the UK, we couldn't possibly do the obvious and sensible thing, could we?

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

Similar thing when I was out in Kenya last year, action continues and you get tiny adds at the bottom... Much much better... Probably the same channel but they have the right idea...

It was much better when BBC had the rights....There must be some way to get uninterupted coverage here in the UK?

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

AFAIK ITV has exclusive TV rights in the UK But I do like the commentary from James Allen, Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell and Ted Kravitz. I don't like Louise Goodman (too b*tchy) and Steve Rider just seems out of place. F1 is a fast, dynamic sport full of passion and excitement. One could hardly describe Steve Rider in that way... He should present more sedate sports programmes on showjumping, 3 day eventing, golf, figure skating or rowing.

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

I liked Jim Rosenthal BTW. He was good. I could never stand Murray Walker's screeching, high-pitched voice. He was awful to listen to IMO.

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

I liked Murray Walker and James Hunt. Their voices will always come to mind when I think of watching F1 on TV!
I can watch either ITV or Speed here in the states, I will watch ITV because of Martin Brundle. I liked him as a driver and his insight is incredible! If I had to choose an entire team as my favourite it would be SPEED. Steve Matchett has exceptional knowledge of modern F1 engineering and Peter Windsor beats all other "pit lane" commentators easily! Bob Varsha and David Hobbs are also excellent!

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

Rich, get a DVR (Tivo, whatever). It makes television watchable, again, at least so far.

    Jim

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

In Australia we get the ITV broadcast. However, when ITV breaks for ads, the local network only has about 2mins of ads, and rejoins the ITV broadcast without commentary...and the Aust. commentator have to fill in for a minute or two before the ITV commentators join back in. So UK people must have very long ad breaks....would drive me nuts!

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

If you have Sky+ in the UK, there's an easy solution. Just record the coverage and start watching it half an hour or so later. That way you can skip through the ads and hardly notice the disruption.

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

But there's one problem with that solution...it isn't LIVE! When I watch F1 on TV, I also follow the F1 Live Timing on the official F1 website via my laptop...it gives track times, positions and much more data etc which makes watching qualification or the race so much better...if I follow the race 30 mins late, I can't do that unfortunately....

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

atleast you get to see it live sometimes. I live in Miami, and I've had to record it simply because of the time zone differeces. Melbourne was really bad, Speed Network started it's live coverage at 3:00am!

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

I heard that next year Melbourne will be a night race so it will overlap with Euro/US timezones nicely. Night race would be really cool though.

And I thought I was the only one to get up at all times of the day to watch it live with my live timing next to it. I also watch the practice and Quali on live TV & timing.

Once my best bud came over at 6AM only to discover the TV was delayed by a couple of hours - we watched the live timing without the TV!

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

Exactly Leawood911 ITV1 (the UK TV channel which covers F1 in the UK) once didn't cover a qualification session live last year so I listened to the live coverage over satellite radio while getting the lap times etc from F1 Live Timing.

Don't worry - you're not alone - there are plenty of other hopelessly addicted F1 fans out there!

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

BTW, the other advantage of having 3-4 minute ad breaks every 30 minutes or so, is that one can time quick toilet breaks to coincide... so one doesn't miss any action that one wouldn't have missed anyway....

Oh no, don't tell me, you guys don't make a quick toilet pit stop at all during a race?

Sounds like a great idea...has there ever been a night race in F1 before? I know that the IRL series in the U.S. had their first ever night race in Miami.

    Re: F1 UK TV coverage...

I think the McLaren launch party in Valencia, Spain at the start of the 2007 season was the first time in recent memory that a night drive had been organised. The McLaren drivers certainly said at the time that night time visibility was far from optimal...

Easy - I think you may have a frequency problem - and I don't mean with your radio..
