    TVR Returns With New Hairy-Chested Griffith: 500hp V8, 1250kg And A Manual

TVR has pulled the covers off their long-awaited new Griffith at the Goodwood Revival.

It’s a classic two-seater front-engined sports car, with a design echoing the past of the British company's past, though cleverly avoiding being tagged as another retro-themed model. TVR is looking ahead, while respecting the brand’s 70-year-long history.

First the numbers: a Ford-sourced 5.0-liter V8 tuned by Cosworth produces around 500hp in a car that weighs just 1,250kg (2,755lbs). Weight distribution is a perfect 50-50, with TVR also achieving its main target, which was to offer a 400hp/tonne power-to-weight ratio.

Zero to 62mph (100km/h) comes in less than four seconds while top speed is a quoted at ‘over 200mph’ (321km/h). A Tremec Magnum XL six-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission option.

Measuring 4314mm long, 1850mm wide and 1239mm tall, the new TVR Griffith is not only smaller than a Porsche 911, it’s also more compact than a Jaguar F-Type. The chassis utilizes Gordon Murray’s iStream process, meaning inner carbon-fiber panels bonded onto a steel frame, which gives it impressive rigidity. The bodywork is also made out of carbon-fiber, keeping weight in check.

The new TVR Griffith also features a completely flat floor which is claimed to give the car full ground effect aero. Up front there’s a deep splitter, while at the back lies an integrated and rather large diffuser.

The interior adopts a simple layout, with few buttons and a portrait-style infotainment system, specifically designed for the Griffith. A digital instrument cluster is also present, completing the picture of a no-nonsense driver-centric environment.

“This is the culmination of nearly three years of tireless work and we’re all proud as punch,” said Les Edgar, TVR boss. “The Griffith is unmistakably a TVR, a British muscle car that’s as awesome and brutal as it is charismatic and refined.”

The first 500 cars will be badged as Launch Editions and will come finished in special configurations, with bespoke colors. Prices for the TVR Griffith Launch Edition start at under £90,000. The first production cars are expected to reach their owners in the first quarter of 2019.

Good to see TVR back kiss

I look forward to some reviews to read how it drives and sounds. TVR always liked to have great-sounding cars, if not thes best-handling ones angry. "An handful" as Clarkson might say.

Interior looks a bit kit-car though. Maybe darker colours would be kinder to it.

Not beautiful, but high "Coolness" quotient kiss

Looks better in Silver in the film... Also sounds amazing.  Is this motor a version of the Boss 302?  If it was 5.2L, I would think Flat-Plane Crank GT350 motor, but at 5.0, must be the older one (unless they changed its dimensions - maybe shorter stroke?).

Looks very much as all the other TVR before, but good to see them back. Let's hope they can survive this time. wink

He is not really a car lover (even if it looks that way), this whole car thing has become a car business for him. Smiley Not that I do not envy him (a little bit), he managed to make money with what he seems to love. Smiley

I think he got great deals from McLaren aswell.

I'm by now a big fan of British cars.

Think about the new Bentley GT, Range Rover SVR, Rolls Royce Wraith, Mini JCW. Last not least - my threewheeler which I call a street legal roller coaster - hardly enjoyed so much fun in any other vehicle previously. Smiley

But back to serious - I'm all in love to McLaren. Their last couple of years development as a firm is just unbelievable. And the Bentley GT - on top of the list of our future cars. They are classy, perform great and in addition they have a lot of German roots and quality inside! Smiley

    Re: TVR

Yes, McLaren develops quite fast, their products are impressive, especially considering that they lack the resources of a company like Porsche. Which actually throws a bad light on Porsche...unfortunately.

Bentley...Rolls Royce? Brands I would definitely drive if I'd be a multi-millionaire. Not the cars I would choose if I had to pick one, two or maybe three though. Range Rover SVR? I like it a lot but my wife hates the design, so...no chance.  Mini JCW? Loved the car for the first days, this affection went down the drain pretty fast. Can't wait to get rid of it. angry

    Re: TVR

I lot of Porsche people  have jumped ship and are now onboard with McLaren/Bentley. They are now starting to call and the latest teaser was when they paintted a new way of a track day for me (they know I love the Porsches for their ability to be able to drive to the track, track it and then drive back home and that I have my doubts about McLarens durability).

" Come on, you drive your comfy Bentley to the track, where we meet you with your McLaren, you track it, then we take care of it, while you take the Bentley back home...."

Hmm, not a bad suggestion actually.....smiley

Of course his parents paid for his stuff, that whole "I sold my business at an young age for a huge profit" BS is...BS. I tracked his internet tracks and he was a kid in school, playing video games and selling some crappy self-built PCs to some school friends. No big PC company or cell phone company or whatever, then he was a car spotter and then...bam...huge success and money. I tried to look into his family but it isn't easy.

Does it really matter how he finances this stuff? Not really but when kids (my son's friends for example) admire him and think he can afford these cars by running a YouTube channel only, well...then it gets annoying.

Of course not and to be honest, I don't care. I just care about those kids who get the illusion that you can just post some YouTube videos and bam, you can afford a bunch of these expensive cars. This illusion is very dangerous to these kids because they ask themselves "what is school good for if I can just post some YouTube videos and become famous, making some serious money in the process?".

My son's favorite YouTube star has become a millionaire(!) by simply posting gaming videos with him and his buddies. He is an exception though, most of the other YouTube stars (with very few exceptions) have maybe over a million subscribers but the views are under one million each (per video), some even under 100k, so there is no fortune to make here. Kids don't understand this stuff. It took me over a year to make my son understand that school is the most important thing and that you cannot really make serious money with YouTube, unless you are really really famous and have a couple of millions of views per video. Some of his friends lost lots of time to try to make YouTube channels, the most successful one has under 50 views per video and...20 something subscribers. Smiley Smiley

Many YouTube "stars", especially those in the car "business", come from wealthy families. Viewers often tend to overlook that.
