He "used to have a friend who worked at the factory"?
So his main qualification being that he worked at the Porsche factory is somehow superior to the recommendation of the same Porsche factory?
I believe anyone who doesn't follow the procedure in the manual is opening themselves up to possible warranty issues down the road, remeber big brother is watching!

No, he is Bruce Anderson, the technical guru at "Excellence" magazine. You know, _THE_ magazine for Porsche. (not some loser advertiser-owned mag like R&T and C&D).
When he refers to his friend in this case you can bet the friend is a senior engine engineer at Porsche.

I'm pretty sure Porsche's break in "hints" (not a very strict choice of words) are different for the U.S. then the rest of the world? If that's true, it's kind of tough to take too seriously. I'm not saying redline it out of the dealers lot, but babying the car for a couple of thousand miles is also a bit much in my opinion.
