    Recommendations on GT3 Order...?

    I'm very close to putting my name on the '08 wait list for a GT3. Looking for advice on:
    -) PRICE, can I beat MSRP?
    -) Ceramic Brakes, worth it? (Assume I'm not doing monthly track days)
    -) Can I opt out of the 'alacantra' interior treatment?

    -) Exterior Color. Have to admit i'm not a big fan of the 'off-the-shelf' choices, but I do like the GT3RS Orange w/ black wheels...think that would look good on the non-RS? If anyone can point me to pics of unique colors, or suggest colors that actually look good in person vs. online...i'm willing to listen.

    -)Navigation system, is Porsche's worth it? (I'm a diehard gps fan, have it my 4runner and own a chunk of Garmin stock, but just trying to be frugal and opt for a portable device if need be)

    less than MSRP unlikely
    i don't think PCCB are worth it and even less useful if you do alot of track driving..best if you do light track use

    what is the alcantara treatment?

    color and Nav are personal preference

    curious why pccb would not be worth it for heavier track use? Wear out fast and too expensive?

    I don't think I like the use of the alcantara material on the steering wheel and seats, I had a suede-like material on the seats of my '01 mustang cobra conv, was grippier but didn't breath well, I'd just prefer leather I guess.

    - no
    - yes, b/c they have incredible feel even for street use
    - no, except for the steering wheel.
    - two words: speed yellow. it is hawt in person and the voluptuous 997 body work and black highlights make SY work for this car
    - personal. . . I'm not into nav

    Also, you cannot presently place an order for pccb's, they are on hold.

    And Porsche has already said that it would not be possible for anyone to order the GT3 RS shade of "blood orange". You'd only be able to order "pure orange" through their color to sample program. Might add a couple months to your order unless they put it through quickly because they do have that color in their range already just not readily available.

    As for PCCB, I definitely think its worth it if you could get it.

    How do you know this? I have a GT3 on order w/ pccb's
    Should I be worried?

    All new orders cannot have PCCBs.

    Frayed is right. There have been several posts about the current unavailability of the PCCB's and delays for making cars with them that are not already in production.

    Overall the opinion of PCCB's is good...better braking, less fading and lowering the unsprung weight. And they look cool .

    There are some bad points though: cost...duh; fragility...don't chip them changing tires! The little guide thingy is supposed to help; noise...they do squeek alot at low speeds; there have been problems with some versions..."spider webbing", "cracking", etc. some of which is supposed to be "normal"; and becasue they are considered an "expendible item" (for eight grand +++ !), you will get nothing for them on resale .

    I do know of people who do have them on their 996 GT3's and other Porsches. The general concensus seems to be that unless they solve the cost, fragility, noise and "normal cracking" problem, they would not buy them again. But that is only a small group...and yes they do track their cars!

    Only you can decide if it is worth it!

    Just a note of caution here. The Gen II PCCB rotors appear to addressed the problems of Gen I. Accordingly, it's not fair to group the 996 GT2/3 PCCBs with the 997 PCCBs.

    I've had two cars with Gen II PCCBs, my GT3 and my 997S. Neither made a squeak, ever. So far, there haven't been any reports of a cracking or other failure of the new ceramic rotors. However, I did hear of one retired PDE car (997S) that was delivered to a dealer with a crack in one front rotor, which was promptly replaced by Porsche under warranty.

    So far, so good. Fingers crossed.

    The notable issue so far with Gen II PCCBs appears to be excessive heat at the rear rotors, resulting in FAST rear pad consumption. Having talked with a race team on the subject, my current thinking is that it is an airflow issue. I'm a bit concerned and hope if this is the case, there will be a solution to get more air to the rears. Also note that the 997 GT3 has more rear brake bias than its predecessor.

    I am a big fan of yellow w/ black accents, my cobra had that effect, looked great. I may need to do something different this time around though.

    Thanks for the advice peeps...I'll probably go for the pccb, hopefully when I get allocated the supply issues would be resolved.

    Thanks for the info. From what I know of the ages of the vehicles with PCCB it is probably the first generation.

    Let us hope they continue development to bring the price down and solve any other issues (such as the cooling one you brought up) which may appear.

    For the price of them there seems to be little bugs which come up...as long as Porsche continues to warranty them, and as long as people are prepared for the occasional worry/inconvenience. I have never used them but I have been tempted. For all accounts and from several sources (Porsche and others) they are outstanding brakes.
