Jim, if it doesn't look exotic, it isn't a Ferrari. I agree in the picture the car looks very pedestrian.

For me the California was one of the best Ferraris I ever been driven. I really loved it. I remember that I test drove the car on the same day as the Panamera Turbo. The Ferrari did all jobs even better. Very versatile, very fast, but also very comfortable. If required it turned into a monster. All over, probably the best versatile Ferrari out there. The Portofino will be even better, seeing how Ferrari improved over the last years. I like the look, especially in a non-red color might be an excellent car.
On the other hand - for the same money you will be able to buy a Bentley GT. That one has proper rear seats, is also ultra versatile and has that enormous W12 engine. On top if it, the Bentley is understating while the Ferrari has the wrong image (here in Germany).

I like it...a lot. Looks like a small 812. Kind of. Very good design, almost completely hiding the convertible "feature".

+1. The original California was rather spoiled because the high rear screamed "hardtop convertible". This one does not, and the slight hints of buttresses and complex rear curvature are very well done.

Actually I think it looks better than the 812. On top of it - you have a drop head. What more you ask for. Oh - ok - RC, you would certainly ask for that 812 HP

Regarding the 812, I think design-wise it's a step back from the F12.
We're at the point where you can be the fastest or just sound like you're the fastest.

Not anymore. I'm done with excessive power I cannot really put on the ground, especially when "playing" with the car. For track fun, there are better cars than a Portofino or even a 812.
Some cars have become like a fine wine, a good cigar or a nice piece of watch (and keep in mind that I do not drink or smoke): They are luxury pieces, making your life better and more enjoyable after those days of hard work (or when someone gets on your nerves ).

Funny - I think exactly the same. The F12 looks amazing sexy. The 812 seems too long and I dont really fancy it yet!
I like the 812 but I agree...not really a (design) progress over the F12, actually more of a design "adaptation" for a certain market taste.
