True to some extent.
NBR is something special, though. Especially because you have to factor in not only the Ring itself, but more importantly the people who drive it.
The Ring is treacherous due to shifting surfaces, dips, inclines, blind bends and the need for 100% focus for appr. 10 minutes straight - and last but not least due to the number of other drivers with very varying skill, level of stupidity/guts and respect for fellow drivers.
During the single day I was at the track, 3 bikers were taken to the hospital in a total of 4 accidents that also included a few dented cars and a totalled Audi that flipped FORWARDS in a tight bend.
U dont see that on a regular trackday.

Nope, actually he entered a sharp corner, hit the curb which made the car tip over on the roof and slide on the hood and windshield...then he hit the guardrail and continued flipping as I heard it.
But ur version unfortunately also occurs...

Along with your comment about the 21st century with the f1 cars on tv in your car, the 928 community were able to see the 928 drivers day without him being aware of it.
Just like big brother.
The man that owns that orange 928 is on the 928 forum and he has done a lot of work on that car and all is functional for weight, he tracks it often.

Prior to getting to N'ring the other time you could do some practice at home and drive the circuit on PS2, GranTurismo.
You'll be surprised by the accuracy of the simulated road details and you'll discover millions of them that you didn't even notice while actually there. Needless to say how exercised you'll become on the so-called ideal line of each single curve.
Hope to be able to join you there provided I know the dates

Oh boy. I wouldn't suggest using a video game as a comparison for driving the real deal. Maybe to figure out the basic layout of turns but given what kind of car you are in and at what speeds the 'Ring can be unforgiving. Just go out and ask for a few laps with an experienced driver

Video games don't exist anymore, died shortly after the 80's gone and the Atari disappeared. Now we are in the simulators era, take only into account that aircrafts' pilots undergo a significant part of their training through those 'video games' before playing with the lives of hundreds real passengers.
OBTW, Jacques Villeneuve has repeatedly stated that a great deal of his victories is owed to his 'tracking experience' gained mainly throug PS1.
If all of the above are wrong then forgive me, I'm wrong too!
Last, but not least, how anyone will behave in real life isn't just part of the simulation function.

Lasse, how does the real Ring compare with the GTR and GTR2 games? Those are supposed to be much more realistic.

Crash. I wouldn't know as I havent played those games.
But I will give u an idea:
For instance, driving the section "Fuchsröhre-Adenauer Forst-Metzgesfeld" looks like a breeze in games - and even so on film.
"An easy left corner", you would think.
Check this video and see the stretch I am talking about.
Youll see it from 02:55 to 03:05 where the left dogleg comes.

Now, this may look like an easy and unimpressive left corner, but when u are there - even if youre not going 260 km/h like our friend on the video - but only 140 km/h, it feels like youre driving straight down and into a wall of asphalt.
Like I said - it certainly doesnt look that way, but trust me, it feels that way the first few times you try it!
It takes experience and repeated attempts to "code" your brain into accepting that you can bend the laws of physics, i.e. drive this corner a helluva lot faster than you would think.
This applies to a lot of places on NBR. It is every bit as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one IMO.
And that very important detail simply cannot be copied by any game.
You're safe in your sofa glued to your TV and sipping a coke.
And if you crash u just hit "retry".
When I was going down this stretch, my buddy - a very experienced NBR driver - copiloted me, and kept saying "here you can really stretch out" and "let it rip!" and "just floor it" everytime we got to this particular part of the track.
I was busy just trying not to soil myself!...in a masculine fashion of course
Try it - the difference cant really be explained.
