How long are you planning to keep your 997?

How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Don't know. It all depends if the next version is better than the 997.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Had my 99 986 for seven years. This one will get used faster, as I'm putting more milage on it.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

I am hoping for a long long time, I didn't feel the turbo was worth the extra money, so I plan to keep it, but then I said that about the last one and sold it after 18 months!

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Thinking about keep it more than 5 years, but that ultimately depends on what Porsche has on offer in the future. I have a gut feeling, due to the recent Supreme Court ruling on carbon emissions, that prices of high performance cars are going to soar in the future, so I best take good care of the 911S I have.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

The annual tax just rose on high emmission cars in the UK, luckily I got in 10 days beofre the April 24th 2006 dedline, another small reaosn to keep it I suppose.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Last 4 porsches and 1 ferrari, didn't keep any of them for more than a year, but this time I vow to keep the GT3 long term. We'll see. . . but my track record ain't good.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

I have a tendency to keep things I'm "attached" to forever... I don't know how "attached" I'll be to my C2S when the time comes to go for another new "for-fun" driver, but I'll decide at that time whether or not my car gets traded-in or sold or kept as a life-long keeper within the rest of my collection...

In any case, I take care of every "fun" car I buy as if I'm keeping it forever and handing it down to my kids..., because you never know how much sentimentality will eventually attach you to the car until the the day you decide you're buying something else...

Nothing worse than saying, "man I love that car, I'm going to keep her around forever... too bad I trashed the interior, abused the mechanicals, let the paint go to hell, and the whole thing needs restored at obscene expense..". Not to mention that after you restore a car, you lose a dose of that sentimentality, with every aspect of the car that gets tossed in the dumpster and replaced.

I've sold a few cars in my life, former "drivers", that I truly regret having let go... I don't want to make any more of those mistakes. There's nothing more satisfying than pulling out "an old friend" for a drive on a sunny day that brings back many good memories..

Jeez, now I need to pull out the tissues!! Sniff sniff.... the softer side of 69bossnine....

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

I'll just have to keep mine forever...I ran out of money when I bought this one.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

    It's a keeper!

1st and hopefully not the last. Next time, I'd like to spend at least a month or two touring Europe.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

It really depends. I like the niche Porsche has filled with the S, being that it's more usable than a GT3 but it still has the big 3.8 motor and turbo brakes.

Now, if they continue to the 998 and build another 'S' model and don't make it a 997-specific addition to the lineup, I may feel inclined to upgrade.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

I plan on keeping mine until I leave this wonderful place....can't afford to buy another!!!

Your foresight makes sense. Thinking ahead helps one make a better decision instead of allowing other nonrelevant issues to cloud one's judgment.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Only for about 6 months. Then it will be time to decide what to get next.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Me too. I went through about 8 Porsches in 6-7 years. But then my wife put her foot down. So my 997 I will be keeping for at least two years, and the GT3 on order may be a car I keep even longer. With the other cars, each didn't turn out to be the complete joy I had anticipated. Part of it was my fault. I ordered wrong - color combinations it turned out I didn't like. And some were pre-owned and had problems I did not suspect, things that were hard to fix like chips in the windshield (windscreen), etc. Anyway, I guess I'm pretty spoiled. But I did really get tired of all the buying and selling -- and losing money every time.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Not sure. I have had mine for about 18 months. My kids are still small enough to fit in the back. In another couple of years they will be too big. Most likely will sell and get something else. Currently I only have about 6K miles on the car. If I don't drive it more it might not last another month!

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Just unloaded a 997S. Wait till you see what a hit you'll take on this car. Gulp. The floor seemed to drop out recently on the Kelley Blue Book prices.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Till Hell freezes over,--but with golbal warming thing, it will take a bit longer!

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Don Imus says something idiotic (wasn't being a dull weirdo a daily thing for him anyhow?), and it dominates the news cycle for a full week.... I think Hell must only be a few ice-cubes short of freezing over....

What is sad is we talk about how great our cars are but they don't seem to hold their value very well. I guess we buy them for now and when the time comes to sell we

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

It all would depend on how reliable the car is with all the modern electronics and my 997S's wet sump engine that wasn't developed for racing. If it is as good or better than what is has been so far, then I'll keep it until the end... I have been a Porsche owner since 19 but this is the first time I got to order a car from the dealer the way I wanted it to be and not from their showroom inventory and that, to me, makes this one a special car with the added bonus of having the X51 and, while this is a subjective issue, the factory Aerokit.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

i will keep mine untill the end of summer...my new GT3 is on the way

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

Last five Porsches have not lasted more than one year at best. Current C2S Cab is 10 months old and will be leaving in Aug for a TT Cab. Current new GT3 might be the exception, I suspect I may keep this for several years.

I like to turn cars over, I don't get attached to them, GT3 excepted.

R8 being added in the fall, nothing leaving, just for [beep] and grins.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

2006 C2S cab with all the mods. for 11 month. Sold it, ordering a C4S cab. I have no idea why?

Yea, I guess the moral of the story is let someone else take the hit. That is if you can wait that long

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

    Good point

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

    48 months

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

I wouldn't sell my porsche until the cost of repairing it was more than it's resale. Most people buying these cars are not economically strapped, therefore why realize huge depreciation just to buy another car, you don't need the cash...keep the porsche and go buy another car! Even if it's no longer the 'hottest' car around, I'm sure it will serve faithful track purposes for many many years beyond it's 'bling' lifespan. Instead of realizing that big drop, just put that extra money into enhancing your current P car.

Re: How long are you planning to keep your 997?

If your replacement timing is based on the potential repair costs, think about what a new lease would cost as the offset. You can make a lot of repairs for $12k-15k per year. Of course, if you're making a lot of repairs, then you also have a big PITA.
