AMV8V vs E46M3

Gentlemen and Ladies
I currently drive an 04 E46 M3 and am contemplating adding an AMV8V to my garage but have not yet driven the aston. How will the performance and handling stack up to the M3? Looks aside will I be somewhat disappointed?? Has anyone driven the two beasts?

Aston beats the M3 in every aspect except "tossability".

I would not park an aston martin in some places I would park an M3. New York city streets for example.

I have driven both previously. The Vantage "perfomance-wise" is VERY similar to the E46 M3. I to be honest could not feel a difference in acceleration. The gearbox and clutch are quite heavy where as the M3's is manual is much more drive-able everyday IMO. Handling I can not fairly comment on as I did not throw these cars around on the track

If you're looking for perfomance - the Vantage is a good car, but you won't be getting any more than what you are from your current M3.

For looks however - the Vantage of course takes the cake

I d go for Aston on M3. But i guess their performance would be similar.

I think new owners of Aston Company will handle the Astons low performance problem.

They are very different cars and the Aston is the better and sportier car IMHO. Of course the AMV8 also cost much more. Looks briliant though! See my thread "AMV8 and 997" posted recently.

... Faster than the Vantage and cheaper... Better interior than current M3 and better looking too IMO (although a bit understated)

Once the AMV8 is run in....we'll have to do some performance testing!

Let's take it down to the the track and compare lap times. Yes I do like the Aston much more than I used to, but I maintain that the 911 is a sportier drive. No biase there at all.

I have not driven the new Vantage yet, but driving/price aside the aston is a more striking car and if your looking for something unique in those two choices I would go for the Aston Martin. Does anyone know when the Vantage convertible comes out?!?!?

i would go for the aston, but dont expect it to be faster than the m3, its not. and in low revs the m3 has also more punch. as for the looks, the m3 looks vulgar next to an aston v8

Can't agree more. The Aston is eons further than the jag. Faster, with a character and sportive.

For many reasons, I know (and love) Jaguar Cars, but you can not compare an Aston with a "Sportive" Jag (at least nowdays)...

The "Sport automatic transmition Jaguar", is a great car, great value, for making very confortable trips, fast, but not really sporty....

The Aston is not even a real performer, but, much faster in the majority of conditions compared to the jag...In any case, much nicer...

Maybe one of the very best designs in car history.

And, regarding to performance, I'm anxious to see te Prodrive influence in Aston....Vantage "S" ?

By the way, the M3 can perform the same as a Vantage, but PLEASE! we are talking in diferent leagues.

No possible comparisons.

The style and design are also important....

Aston Martin is a very different approach compared to BMW under any objective or subjective point of view

...Just imagine arriving to the Excelsior Hotel, Via Veneto, Rome with one car or with the other....

The Aston Martin Vantage is the only car that, with a "reasonable" price can match any other under a "global" point of view (even not being the faster, or the larger, or the most expensive).

The Aston Marin Barcelona dealer has now a 2006 (more or less) Gallardo for 138000 euro in offer (few Kms). It's a real temptation for me, cause I love the Gallardo. But, for more or less the same amount I'll have the Vantage (deposit done...maybe I'll wait for the "S")...What should I do?....

Can you understand my words?, comparing a Vantage with a M3 is simply ridicoulous.....

In the "Normal life usage", at least for me, the AMV8 has everything: Style, usage, reasonable performance, looks, quality finishes, etc.

The M3 (a very good car) is a "standard creation"....miles behind a 977S...the price? of course, cheaper.

And, If I'm permitted to say, this last model with it's "stilish" improvements is, at least, questionable....(in a few future versions the car will look as a Mitsubishi)

I havn't driven the new M3, but I can tell you that Byron is correct. The AMV8 commands so much more attention than an M3.

For example I was in a sea side town in Australia last weekend for easter. I had the AMV8 parked on the street out the front of where we were having breakfast (in the centre of town). I must of counted about 10 people take pictures with their camera phones etc. There were also a fleet of BMWs, Mercs and even a 430 spydier. But the AMV8 was the main attraction.

Plus another thing i have noticed in the AMV8 is that when you are stuck behind someone in traffic, they usually let you by....b/c they want to hear you accelerate past them. I usually oblige...and let it rev past 4000rpm where the valve in the exhaust opens up and it sounds like a machine gun. They love it! Even driving down the street, young guys will shout out, 'rev it!'

I don't think anyone would even notice if an M3 drove by at full throttle.

But if that if you don't like attention..don't get an AM!!

Also i'm sure the M3 is the quicker car (track and road), but sheer numbers don't mean anything. I'd prefer to drive a proper race car on the track...and enjoy the AMV8 on the road.

Yeah from my own experience, when I was driving behind jcparki, everyone turn their head to look at him and his car. Nobody even takes a look at mine. But then again that is how I like it. But Byron is right. You get no cred turning up to a top hotel in a M3!
