    Help Please: What defines "Exclusive Option"?

    Is there a list somewhere of exclusive versus NON-exclusive options? And what does "exclusive" imply? Cost? Item can't be obtained from dealer, has to be added at time your car is built?

    I have not been successful with my search. The list I have is this: http://www.edmunds.com/new/2007/porsche/911/100702449/options.html?action=1&x=119&y=20 . And it doesn't say which item is "exclusive."

    If you go to the Car Configurator on the UK Porsche web site and look at options for your desired car you will see all the available non-exclusive options. Exclusive options are added AFTER the car has been built in a special section of the Porsche factory. They do tend to be more expensive, but not too bad, and they tend to add a week or two to your delivery timing. The exclusive option codes are often identifiable by starting with a "C".

    Actually, that's not true. When I visited the Porsche factory last summer, I asked about the "exclusive" options and was told that they simply add these items to your particular car at the time of production not post-production. It does delay your order but only if you make the changes past a certain date prior to the production of your car. It was interesting watching them put together the various components of the cars. Each is built to order as specified by an order sheet. And yes, the "exclusive" options do begin with a "C".

    For example, the gear shift leather trim is option "CDZ."

    I was able to order the gear shift trim in leather after having taken delivery of my car. I just had to find someone who was had ordered the same trim piece in the same leather color and get his VIN number. I was then able to use this VIN number to get the gear trim piece ordered. It took a while but it eventually came through.

    Thanks, JFT/Jason. So it appears there is nothing exclusive about "Exclusive Options," other than that they are difficult to be added on post-production. They are not just limited to decorative type trim pieces either, as for example CPA is for the thicker steering wheel. Conversely, some decorative type option begins with X, such as XTW, Door Finishers Aluminum Look.

    I think the term is there more or less to confuse us .

    It's just another arbitrary list from which to separate us from our local currency...

    Someone needs to take Porsche to court regarding their definition of "full leather interior." They have reduced that over the years to practically nothing!

    I especially like having to pay extra to get a 'sports shifter' or 'sports seats' in my 'sports car'. But having to pay (a lot) to add leather trim to a car with 'full leather' has to win the award for (lack of) truth in advertising.

    It used to mean special options that were completed at a separate building, now it is another list of overpriced options to extort your money.
