    Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Made a little trip to our beloved green hell, it was pretty crowded, but I had a great day...

I'll start with some pictures (not mine, I'll upload them tomorrow)

On our way, we took some B-roads, really worth while, they're immense fun!

    Consequense: Supporting the oil industry

More driving pics and vids tomorrow

Once arrived, we found a great spot to look and hear at the cars passing by

    Very fast GT3 mkI

Yes GT3's are more common then Carrera's there

This colour really doesn't photograph well, car looks stunning IRL

    Very impressive car, sound-wise

    This one sounded great too!

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Then some of us went for a drive, unfortunately I couldn't myself, as my car is still being fixed, so I co-piloted this E30 M3, old, but very impressive...

    Me!

This RS6 was my "taxi" on the way there and back, great car great performance, and great sound thanks to Miltek!
We topped 310km/h (on tacho that is, 296km/h on GPS)(car is delimited) on our way back, impressive for a family estate!

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

The 'ring remains a dangerous place...

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Great pictures Porker ... looks you had a blast

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

definitely looks like you had lots of fun!
I hope to visit there too on my trip to Germany

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Great pictures! And you really aren't anything like the guy your avatar .

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Hi Porker - looks like you had a blast in the Green Hell
We have to co-ordinate ourselves better - I know at least of 4 Rennteamers who have been at NS at the Easter weekend
Impressive GT3 armada indeed - the Swedish guy must have done quite some laps, he was there at Friday already
Also I saw 3 CGTs during the last week on the track
Hope you don't mind if I add some on-board pics to your thread (taken during a lap in a 318iS - former cup racecar "re-legalised", but still stripped and with special NS set-up + r-compounds)

    1. Beautiful Eifel landscape..

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    2. It's all about those curves...

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    3. the hills crowded with spectators....

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    4. dust cloud just in front of us as someone didn't manage to follow the ideal line

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    Not the only one....
During my 12 laps (of which most as a passenger feeling secure with true NS-pros behind the wheel) I saw 6 accidents most of them with bikers (thanks god no severe injuries). The Streckensicherung (sort of safety cars) did an amazing job: one in front of us turned on the yellow lights on the roof even 3 seconds BEFORE the biker in front of them crashed - they just anticipated that he approached the corner in the wrong way....

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Thanks, guys...looks like it was a great day and time!

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Thanks Porker..I whish I could be there ! ... and now we know also what you look like

    Jeck..nice pics too

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Thanks for the pictures Jeck, we should have some sort of Nordschleife calendar on Rennteam, that way we can see who'll be there...

Uploading my (crappy) pics right now..

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Here they are, I warned you, no Mike S'ish pictures

Our group gathered early in the morning

To start driving, and as none of us drove a Porsche, we decided to hunt them down

    Beautiful roads...

    But beware..

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Watching F1 while driving, 21st century rocks

When approaching the N'ring you begin to see more and more of these creations, example: a fully stripped 330d touring, roll cage, uprated breaks, bucket seats, ...

And once there, you see these

    great car...

    men...

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    Beautiful 997...

    Badge was stickered

An american GT3 tasting Europe's finest asphalt

You don't need an expensive car to experience the thrill of driving, a Clio Trophy, one of the best hot hatches ever made... Owner was a very nice guy, a true petrolhead

    Its granddaddy

Not a rare sight on the 'ring

    Neither is this

    Or this.. (great color combo)

    Ferrari on the other hand...

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    Me in a happy place

    Great license plate

An M3 GT, not very common..

    On the 'ring:
    Things to keep up with:

    Things you better let go:

On our way home, RS6 owner loves to fill up his car, an expensive hobby

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

I realy enjoyed all your pics . Thank you

    The red Carrera looks stunning

And I see that your friend's RS6 has been on the Swiss highways

I love the red Carrera too, it seems to sit really low, -20mm or aftermarket suspension?

Indeed, his RS6 is registered in Switzerland as he works there (Luzern), taxes for that sort of car are much much lower there than in Belgium..

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Many thanks for sharing, not sure I'm brave enough to risk my Boxey round the 'ring but I'd love to experience it with a "Ring-pro".

@ porsche-jeck - you didn't risk taking your pride and joy round then?

Tim, actually both P-J and myself took our wee Boxeys out on the Ring this weekend. We met up thursday and spent all Friday at the Ring.
I can only speak for myself - for me it was a mixture of great fun and peeing my pants...in a masculine way- naturally.
On my virgin lap I spent most of the time keeping right and staring into the rear view mirror. Later on it became more fun and I got into a much better rythm.
I suggest you try it - but make sure u have an experienced Ringer as passenger, so you know what to look out for and where to place your car.

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

I know the owner of that US spec GT3. Slightly cocky...pilots!

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

    Thanks for posting the pics, must have be a pilgrimage time of year. One of the 928 guys was spied on his way to the ring and at it and it was posted on another forum;

That sums it up in quite authentic words
I take it that you had a smooth trip back to Copenhagen

@ Tim: I think the risk is O.K. if you do a lap now and then without trying to top WR times, just enjoying the flow of the circuit
However for heavy Ring duty I never would sacrifice the P-car (too much $$$ at risk for my tiny car budget)
The Ring-maniacs I know do up to 500 laps during a season (10k km) and none of them sacrifices a new P-car for their hobby. Of course if money is no object it's a different story: saw a GT3 who overcooked a corner - as a result the entire driver's side of the car was damaged, which didn't prevent him from going for another set of hot laps

I've seen that one passing many times, it sounded GREAT!!!

Car looked great too, apart from the cheapish rear spoiler (imo)

aftermarket !! The -20 is not that low.

For the ones that want to discover the ring without the crazy crowd and learn how to master it , there is a great course one can take . It' s the Scuderia Hanseat.
They have two courses, one in Mai and one in September. I plan to attend the September one again.

Agreed, it's a lot cheaper, and more fun (as you don't have to be afraid to scratch it) to buy an E36 M3, strip it, uprate brakes and suspension and trash that one around..

For Euro 15k you'd have a very fast track car...

I'd LOVE to do that someday, but I thought the course was pretty expensive, no?
In that case, I'll wait a couple of years

    Re: Nordschleife Trip 08/04

Very good advise from Gnil - actually the Scuderia Hanseat course has a very good reputation (especially for beginners). If I recall correctly the 4 days course will set you back 1,700 Euro.
