    No it is not. You need to compare the weight to the same standard.

    The RS4's weight is to the DIN standard, i.e. with oils and basic fluids but without fuel, driver or luggage.

    Whereas the M3's weight is 1655kg including 90% fuel, and 75kg for driver and luggage. This amounts to 119kg, so the comparable DIN weight for the M3 would be 1536kg, which is 114kg lighter than the RS4 (i.e. around 250lbs).

    If you look at the quoted 'curb weight' of the RS4 on the Audi US website you will see what I mean. It's around 3900+ lbs, whereas the UK website quotes 1650kg (i.e. 3630lbs). Both cars are the same, but the weight is quoted to different international standards.

    Porsche do this (i.e. quote vehichle weights to the DIN standard), which is why you can never just compare Porsche with BMW, who use the EU1 standard instead.

    So despite a lighter engine and carbon fiber roof, it's still 85kg over the E46. Is this the result of more (or improved) safety features?

    Thanks for all great info about the new M-drei
    Anyone happen to know how much the weight will increase with the no-cost-option sunroof? Will the handling be noticable worse with the added weight in the wrong place? I really love sunroof

    Sparkling graphite or Carbon black would be my choice, no doubt!

    If not..., here goes: No not true. Actually you're thinking 180 degrees opposite to what is happening.

    Look at the new Cayenne, it used to look sophisticated and 911-looking, latest iteration (two or three "facelifts" later), really is muuuuuch "dumber" looking. The 08 is almost indistinguishable from the most pedestrian-looking Subaru.

    Why? Because to sell more cars you have to appeal to a wider audience. By "dumbing down" the aesthetics you accomplish that.

    You can think whatever you want but the trend for BMW is to increase sales by increasing their mass appeal. That's why Ford, GM, Toyota, Dodge, all seem to be using the same styling BS.

    Withing the same performance car market niche, Corvette looks like an aggressive angry snake, Dodge looks like an aggressive angry snake, etc., etc., now the M3 looks like an aggressive angry snake. See?

    Sure, that's fine. I wasn't trying to argue with you. I guess you have a point about the whole "angry" thing. But I still do believe BMW produces very bold, risky designs that tend to appeal to a more intelligent customer.

    Oh..., sorry..., not arguing either..., no problem. I'm just extremely disappointed by new M3 look.

    Okay, maybe we're all "inteligent." But the new designs look awful to me... .

    Those look like official promo vids. It doesn't look very good in red with those wheels. Very ordinary.

    I also thought the sound wasn't too good from the outside, not as deep or growling as the RS4 but inside the cabin it sounded better.

    Recommending black as the best colour really is no compliment for the desiger...

    Edmund.com recently tested the new 2007 BMW 335i. Surprising fact was reveled when the performance numbers were released. They discovered that the stock 335i almost beat the all-powerful 2007 Audi RS4, despite a 120-horsepower advantage and all-wheel-drive launch superiority. RS 4 just nicked 335i's 0-60 and quarter-mile times by a paltry 0.1 second each. Which is very impressive considering the fact that Audi rocket sedan costs $66,000 or about twenty five thousand ($25200) dollars more then 335i.

    Test car blazed from zero to 60 in 4.8 seconds. Similarly it scalded the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds at 105.9 mph. For comparison, the 2005 M3 Competition Package used up 5.5 seconds getting to 60 and finished the quarter-mile in 13.7 seconds at 105.4 mph.

    One can only imagine the performance of the new M3, which is the performance focused variant of 3 series platform.

    I mean is the 335i as fast as the rs4?
    ive heard that the rs4 is underrated in 0-60 time, that actual speed is between 4.2-4.5 sec?
    Didn't BMW mention that 0-60 of new m3 was 4.8? doesnt make sense is 0-60 of 335i is also 4.8? WTF!

    Didn't the article state the BMW did 5.5 seconds? that means they only did 5.4 seconds in the B7 RS4?

    Sounds like BS to me, either that or poor driving.

    Amir, there has been discussion among BMW owners on other forums. Apparently BMW releases its new cars with much more power than advertised (the 335i with about 350 bhp, the 335d and 535d with over 300 bhp), but the software which is loaded on the first service scales down the power significantly, at least according to several owners' statements.
    The 0-60 time for the 335i was 4.8 seconds. The car was definitely tweaked as none of the European tests achieved that number.

    Speaking of 335i...at a 12 hour production race today at Bathurst, the 335i won against the likes of Mitsubishi EVO and Imprezza STI. These are all raced by highly regarded racing drivers and not amatuers (so no real driver advantage). Really surprised me!

    I don't like the M3's price.

    The greatness of that car was that it was quite cheap compared to let's say, a 911 carrera.

    At 66.000 euro, it's too pricey. With options, ou''l have to sign a check of 75-80K. That's the price of a carrera 2.

    I'm also worried about that V8. Sounds great but the weight ... In addition, the design looks a bit over done, especially teh front and it's stupid bumper. Not to mention the bump on the bonnet. The all point of the M3 is to be invisible. People should think it's a 320d, not a rocket from space.

    The 335i sounds like a better deal to me.
