    Roadpilot Micro

Has anybody tried out the Roadpilot Micro in Europe? Is it performing well? is it accurate?

    Re: Roadpilot Micro

I have, and along with the Stinger DSI, it is the best system available for europe IMO.

Both are GPS warning systems but also have hidden radar detector remote antenas as option for the mobile radars, with is very important in some EU countries were they have mobile K-band Gatsos and Ka-band Multanovas for exmaple.

As a matter of fact, I have oa DSI (1700 Euro ) in one car and an Micro w/ hidden radarhorn (900 Euro ) on the other

    Re: Roadpilot Micro

Thank you for your reply Carlos,
How do I know what countries use which radar pistols? Do you know of a site which gives away that kind of information?
Also, you mentioned in your reply that you paid like 900 EUR for your Roadpilot Micro while on their page it costs 299 pounds, Laser Pilot included. Have you combined your system with something else?

I'm thinking about buying only the Roadpilot Micro which comes with 1 LaserPilot. Would that be enough to "track" the policia's pistols ?
Also, where should I mount it? I have an Elise, which sits quite low...I reckon the licence plate might be too low? Should I mount it on the windscreen? Unfortunately it is hard to hide it there, isn't it?

    Re: Roadpilot Micro

No problem Gauss, I'm glad to lend a hand if I can. anti-speedtrap measures is one of my specialties

The RoadPilot Micro I'm reffering to is the RoadPilot Micro but with the optional radarhorn which is an antena that you hide behind the front bumper or fascia and detects radar. So the Micro warns you of speedcameras via GPS but also via radar detection in order to also detect the mobile radar traps. And since its installed behind the bumper, its hidden from view, the only part visible is the micro itself which is just a GPS warning system.

As to the radar guns and laser guns in your area, which countries would you be driving in? There are some compilations of what is used in which country but they are not 100% exact.

The LaserPilot complement of the Micro is a laser sensor. Many GPS warning systems now come with a laser sensor but in reality its just a gimmick. Its rather useless against laser in Europe because the police tend to shoot from closer ranges and since the laser bean is very narrow (unlike radar which diverges and rebounds and scatters) you will most likely only be alerted by the sensor when they target you directly. I.e. they can target the car next to you and the laser bean will not reach or hit you sensor unless you geta lucky rebound. And since most laser guns take around 0,3seconds to lock your speed, thats hardly enough time for you to react if the laser sensor alerts.

For laser guns the only solution is a laser jammer. The one I have installed is a Laser Pro Park. I have tested many jammers with laser guns personally and I found this one to be the most effective, and its also sold exclusively as a parking sensor in case the police stops you, you have an excuse for having it installed. The correct placement of the jammer heads is in the area of the licence plate, if you install on head, then on top or bellow, and if you install two, then to the sides of the plates. But the Elise you have is small and black so you could get away with just one head (best is one in the front and one in the rear like I have, since in some countries they shoot you form behind as well).

    So basically you need:
    - a GPS warning system to alert you of all the fixed speedcameras (not all emit radar so not all are detected by radar detectors).
    - radar detection (a radar detector or radar antena) to alert you of mobile radars, since these move around, the GPS warning systems cannot alert you to it since they are not in the database.
    - laser jammer to defend you from laser guns.

    Re: Roadpilot Micro

Thank you, Carlos, your reply was very helpful, as always
    Appreciate it!

    Re: Roadpilot Micro

I have a micro roadpilot for one year and am satisfied, no detector connected, since the belgian police detects detectors and can confiscate your car (also in the netherlands) having one.
So no risks for me, but the roadpilot works pretty well and is legal.

    Re: Roadpilot Micro

The guys over at http://www.flitsservice.nl/ have developed a filter that will block the LO noise that the radar antena of the Bel966/Bel975/RoadPilot/Ventura leaks out.

Radar detectors are heterodyne receptors like a radio and in order to work the emit a RF in the process, this is called LO noise (local oscilator noise, usually in the 12GHz aprox frecuency for modern detectors). This LO noise is what the police's Radar-Detector-Detectors (RDD's)detect, and is how the police can detect you have a radar detector (The Spectre III RDD from the Australian company Stalkar is what is used in Belgium and Netherlands). But if the LO noice is blocked, the radar detector will effectively be invisible to the police since there won't be any RF signal leaked to be detected.

The antena of the RoadPilot is the same as the Bel966, Bel975, and Stinger Ventura. And the filter they designed is for these antenas, so you may what to check it out. It will make the radar antena invisible and you will be able to detect mobile radars which are the most dangerous along with laser guns.
