    New CL65 AMG revealed

I haven't read it here, in case some of you are not aware of it yet :
    http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Mercedes-Benz-CL/225064/

    Re: New CL65 AMG revealed

Would argue new CL platform is best overall driver's car today when calc'g safety/perf/comfort/utility/qual of tech, materials, ergonomics, etc ....am immensely impressed by MB's achievement w/new CL

That said, have my doubts re: CL65 .....unless MB's chassis engineers have innovated mechanical/hardware/software solutions to manage 65's trac issues in wet or even dry, uneven pavement, I suspect many jaded, cost-no-object buyers will rather opt for CL63 w/030 Perf Pckge.....63 motor may lack relative hp/tq vs 65, but overall traction, 250lb lighter 63 motor's impact on steering/handling feel and advantages of NA throttle linearity/exhaust note may overwhelm 65....except on dry, traffic-free stretches of derestricted AB....but US buys some 65% of global 65 production, often used at <100MPH on bumpy urban fwys/streets in CA/NYC, where it does occasionally rain....

In any case, will trade in my '07 CL600 for CL63 030 in Jul....and will trade in 63 for 65 in Fall to do own back-to-back comparo....perhaps will go back to 63 if 65's trac issues are unresolved....or stay w/65 for a few mths until some higher tech/more debugged iteration is released...perhaps a new, latest-tech, lighter NA V12 from AMG???....

    Re: New CL65 AMG revealed

CL63 is the car that makes my mouth water more than any other atm. I got to see a 550 in the flesh in south beach and I must admit, it was simply stunning.

I agree with VK, simply the pinnacle of the layman's daily driver.

The 65 seems like overkill to me. Its only habitat of comfort would be a long autobahn

I could imagine that the CL65 will be close to perfection. Compared to the CL63 the 65 offers lots of low rev torque. Also, on a fast AB trip, additional hp cannot hurt either

However, I agree that the traction issues are a major impediment to buying this car. If somebody at MB cared to develop and launch AWD for the 65 series these cars would be much more attractive With AWD I would have no arguments left not to buy it

The RS6 is coming and it will be almost as fast! And AWD!

That is correct. However, the CL is a different class of a car - the perfect luxurious cruiser. No effort spared

    Re: New CL65 AMG revealed

Has anyone ever managed to convert one of these to manual transmission? Just wondering if it could be done

Why would you want to do that? Renntech probably could, but manual in a luxo-cruiser?

    Re: New CL65 AMG revealed

The car for the guy that doesn't exactly want the bling of a bentley GT but still wants to be a bit mean with his car.

Well the CL65 AMG is more of a sporty car to me. I'm not big on convertibles so aside from the SLR this is the top of the line coupe they make

I guess when the A7 is out, and an RS version for this model is in the market it will be able to compete with the CL65 AMG..
As for now - the RS6 is a different car (E class competitor)

    Re: New CL65 AMG revealed

RS6's presence is insignificant next to a CL63/65...

that's why you buy this car, no?

The RS6 has enough presence for me. Not to mention half as expensive and AWD, which means it can be used everyday (try and use the CL65 in the winter ).

if I get a CL65 I'll move to LA or Miami where the winter wont be a problem. Keeping the girls from damaging the upholstery will be another issue

Just get a pair of handcuffs, lined with tiger fur on them to restrain them and then slap them with a sticker - "property of OG Hurst, yo!"

In any case, make sure she's on top and it won't happen .
