    more power...

after 6 months with my turbo it couldnt be better..
probably the best car i ever had...

but now im looking for more power to my car...

i would like to upgrade my ECU(chiptuning)
    the question is..

in brazil what normally they do is, in the stock ECU, they upgrade it. it means that they keep it but refresh it..

    some1 to help me?

    a safe chiptuning(i cant explode my engine! ) ??
in europe , USA, .... they refresh the stock one or they change all ECU and you keep your stock with you?

    gains without exhaust?
im going to europe soon, so its time to start to look my first upgrade...
    HELP MEE please!
    sorry for the bad english

    Re: more power...

Some very good options for you from AWE Tuning/Imagine Auto and Protomotive - all US vendors which may be easier for you.

    Re: more power...

I am having my 997TT modified by Imagine Auto:

    http://www.imagineauto.com/997TT.htm

    Re: more power...

The new equipment can detect any change or change back in the ECU. The dealer will void the warranty if any major engine or transmission failure occurs. In the U.S., there have now been cases of voided warranties when cars have been brought in for routine maintenance - read your owner's manual, it says it right there.

    Re: more power...

i have to agree with gerry. you have to ask yourself if the extra power is worth damaging your engine and having to buy a new one out of pocket. it does happen. and the dealership knows if it has been modified...but its your money dude.
you could get away with a small power increase but porsche will know it.
    check out

    good luck

if you are concerned about the warranty don't do it even though some US tuners swear the PIWIS doesn't detect it when reversed to stock, otherwise Protomotive all the way. you will have to ship your ecu to the US to have it reprogrammed. european tuners seem to be much more expensive.

    Re: more power...

I had Todd at EVOMS do my ECU upgrade.

    http://www.evoms.com

They will sell you a whole new factory ECU that has been flashed. Then you just take out your original ECU and replaced it with the new flashed one. You can always put the original one back in (10-15 minutes max!) if you have engine or transmission troubles. No guarantees that this will resolve the warrantee issue, but it is a thought.

EVOMS ECU upgrades work fabulously with the standard transmissions, but there is a step down issue (which makes getting the full benefit of the upgrade tricky) when upgrading the ECU on a 997TT with tip transmission that to my knowledge no tuner has yet to overcome!

I did the Stage 4 EVOMS Upgrade on my 997TT with Tip and the car is transformed. I only must be carefull when gunning it not to floor the accelerator because on a Tip transmission the accelerator when completely floored depresses a step down button that attempts to downshift the car (dumping the desireable boost). In any case, with or without the stepdown engaged, the car runs notably better with the upgrade! Learn to not engage the stepdown and the car rips!

    Re: more power...

Exhaust will yield you 500+hp, ECU is gonna yield warranty issues at some point, not worth the gamble to me. A warranty IS a big deal on a 140k car.

I agree but the improvement with ecu and exhaust is just huge compared to exhaust alone. I did the ecu just over 8000 miles ago and the exhaust 4000 miles ago with no problems so far, except in cold weather and before warm up, the stock clutch cannot handle the new power, otherwise the ecu is the best 3k$ I have spent on this car, no question about it.

    Re: more power...

anyone tested a stock 997 turbo VS a ECU upgraded one ?
    real difference in a drag?

    Re: more power...

If I had to pick 1 mod, it would be the ECU - especially now that GIAC has released the uploader version for KILL, VALET, STOCK, REG, RACE. After you drive an ECU car, you won't care about the warranty. It is that good.

    Re: more power...

Xandi911, you could consider buying a second (clone) ECU unit, and let them mod that one, when you bring you car to the dealer just swap the modded ECU unit with the stock unit
I think that the price for a clone ECU runs about $ 1500 in the States

    Re: more power...

Xandi911 check out Evolution Motor Sports, and you can see the difference (check out Stage 3 and 4)

    and 750 Euro in europe...

So is it pretty much agreed that doing the exhaust alone won't be a problem warranty wise? For my own tastes no way I'd want to void a warranty on a new Porsche just isn't worth it imo (or to me) whatsover.

    Re: more power...

Just did my exhaust (Fabspeed) and Evo headers. This is like Evo Stage 3 without the ECU change. Later after warranty expires or I get braver I'll do the GIAC ECU flash. Pick the car tomorrow.

    Re: more power...

Mike let us know what you think of it. Cheers.

    Re: more power...

Picked up the car this morning. The sound is what the Turbo should sound like directly from Porsche. Drove to my office in Palm Harbor from dealer in Sarasota (~80 miles) and the car sounds great, no droning, not too loud....just a nice growl like the car should sound. Even at idle it now has the low pitched gurgle type growl that my 993 has.

    Re: more power...

evolution motorsports have their own program for TT or they just upgrade it like using parts from others.. like use GIAC ECU flash??

the best flash for my ECU since now looks like GIAC right?

if i buy a clone ECU for my TT can i have problems with the sistem of the car?? eletrical problems?
