    Need help on steering wheel feel

    I need to know what happens to your steering wheel at the moment the ABS kicks in when driving at about 60 km/h and making an emergency stop.
    Hold the steering wheel very lightly and , please, tell me what you feel and what happens.

    I had some problems,not sure if they are completely solved, , my mechanic tells me he can not feel anything abnormal anymore..

    You help would be greatly appreciated.

    Gnil, If you are feeling the steering moving around in your hands a little as the brakes balance each wheel in line with the roads camber/grip etc, this is normal & would be more evident in car with the stiffer set up that yours has. If it is something else let us know & we can try our cars & let you know if they are the same!

    Thanks Porkernut. The brakes do balance the car form left to right, that's what I feel in my steering wheel, but it is quite strong and I don't think I had that before.
    When I am at a standstill and I turn completely my steering wheel and back up, there are strong noises in the front axle, ... I feel vibrations in the steering wheel. The mechanic thinks there is something in the pipes going to the brakes, he said it's like the pump is pumping, but he can't find the default. I can also feel it in underground parking lots, when the surface is very smooth and my steering is completely turned in the curves..

    Jeannot just tried with his C2S -20mm and he said he does not feel anything in the steering wheel. The car goes straight and there is no left/right feedback in the steering wheel.

    My front tyres are nearly dead but I last fall I drove with those and I don't recall feeling this kind of stuff.

    Thursday I am going on a track with CarlosF, he has the targa and I will compare with his car too.

    If anyone else can let me know about heir car that would be very helpful. thanks

    I don't recall that feeling in the Pcar. I'll try it again on some open road- hopefully this weekend/ Monday.

    I'm pretty sure it's normal for other cars to have a bit of movement in the steering wheel during hard braking- not sure about the 911.

    I can't remember which car this was (997 or M3) but the steering wheel shutters a bit when ABS kicks in.

    It's hard to tell if it's vibration from the chassis or a vibration transmitted thru the tie rods. Probably the steering tie rods.

    if there is a problem it's probably the tires

    MMD,,it's more than vibrations...there is a strong left/right feedback in the steering wheel

    I had the noise problem at near standstill with my winter tyres too, but now with the summer tyres I have this ABS feedback. So , the tyres could well have an influence and make the problem worse, but there is also something else...

    I hate it when they say that; they just close down any further investigation.

    Seems to me Porsche should know everything that can go wrong with the ABS system. If you describe "there is a strong left/right feedback in the steering wheel" there's a 99% chance some ABS expert at Porsche can say what's wrong; or tell the mechanic what to check.

    I wonder how much research the mechanic did.

    I hope you can inspire _persistence_ at your Porsche service.
