does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

anyone has any idea that 997TT with PDK will in showroom.? will 997GT2 come with PDK ?

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

    MY2010

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

We do know from the US Panorama magazine that the facelifted 997 Carrera will get PDK. It would appear extremely improbable that Panorama would print something like this inaccurately.

I would therefore assume that PDK on the 997TT will be rolled out at the same time as when the facelifted 997 Carrera is available. It would otherwise be absurd that PDK was available on a 997C2 but not on a 997TT...

That begs only one question then: when is the facelfted Carrera coming out? IMHO there are 3 possibilities:

    1) MY2008 (i.e. Aug 2007) or
    2) MY2009 (i.e. Aug 2008) or
    3) earlier MY2009 (i.e. MY2009 but not as late as Aug 2008).

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out

Panorama also announced the facelift for the next model year (didn't specify Fall/Frankfurt or Spring/Geneva, though).

But I do believe you'll have to wait longer to get PDK on the Turbo, which has a lot more torque than the Carrera or the GT3 (i.e. it's probably a different gearbox than the 987/Carrera PDK)

I had a talk with my dealer here in Sweden beginning of this week when my car was in for some guarantee-issues. He said that the facelift WILL be launched in November 2007 as model year 2008. Orders will be possible to make before that, but first cars will be at the dealer beginning of November.

Some other interesting facts that he told me was that the Panamera is most likely to be out earlier than porsche initially have predicted. He said autumn 2008 as 2009 year model. The final "fact" he told me was that the GT2 WILL HAVE 530hp and it will come with PSM not only TC like GT3.

He is very reliable and serious and I doubt that he is telling bullshit. It is the biggest dealer in Sweden and he told me that they had a visit from Germany last week where they got some more inside info...

Regarding PDK he was more uncertain and I didn't get any confirmations here more than he said that it is most certain that facelifted carrera introduced November 2007 will be the first cars with this option. GT2 will be introduced earlier he said (probably end of summer) and it will most likely only be available with MANUAL transmission.

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

Also.. bump in horespower will be 20hp for Carrera and Carrera S... so 345 for Carrera and 375 for Carrera S

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

What will the PDK paddles/ center consule look like? Anyone know?

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

So according to your dealer it seems as that the very first predictions of MY08 were spot on.

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

I wonder also if the position of the paddles rotates as one turns the wheel. It would be really annoying if the paddles stayed in the same position even though the wheel had been turned 90 degrees...

Of course they were. They were only denied by current 997 owners, who have a vested interest in delaying the intro of the facelift. The calendar just makes sense, it's a repeat of the 996 calendar.

I always supported the original timetable.

Does one change gears often when wheel is turned at such an angle?

F has the steering column-fixed paddles...MB has the steering wheel-attached paddles.....suspect there are at least two views on this.....let's see if P's PDK 1.0 is as inept as PCCB 1.0 or F1 1.0 before focusing on subtle aspects such as steering column vs steering wheel-mounted paddles....P engineers are only 5-10 yrs behind their F counterparts on this "minor" sportscar perf/feel issue....

While this would be great news I am close to 100% sure that the GT2 will not have PSM, thus, the dealer might use the word "fact" a bit too generously...

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out

PDK will be able oly to carrera and carrera S, for the turbo I think we'll have to wait at least for '09 specs I think, first the start to sell the cab on '08 and after that and probably after 3 years of the TT at the market it will be released (and also after 2 years of testing it on carreras...)

No! The Ferrari paddles are designed for easy access in gradual turning which is performance based. Rarely, if ever do you change gears while the car is into the middle of a 90 degree turn. Generally, the shifting is done before going in and again as the wheel is straightening as your going out.

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

Does the PDK work like the F1 in the Ferrari or the EGear in the lambo where there is a actual clutch? I hope not.

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

I wonder if the paddles are going to be attached to the steering wheel like the M5 or not mobile like the Gallardo... I prefer not mobile... I drove an M5 and I dont like when the paddles move with the steering wheel, very awkward.

Fixed paddles are definitely the way to go!

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

Having lived with both fixed paddles on a Maserati (Cambiocorsa) and wheel mounted with both E60 M5 (SMG) and Passat (DSG), I have to say that the ones that rotate are much easier to drive with on real roads. Comments about not steering and changing gear at the same time are fine in principle if you're driving hard on a track, but the reality is that you want to go from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd on a roundabout or as you turn at a junction. With the paddles fixed you end up "feeding" the wheel with both hands and it's clumsy, whereas with the paddles moving you can turn and change gear, which in the real world you need to do a lot. I went from the Mas (terrible vehicle, appalling dealer, don't buy one) to the M5 and it took a while to get used to it but much better and useable overall. I hope the PDK goes with the "German" solution over the "Italian". Of course, it would be nice for everyone to have the choice...

With that suggestion, Porsche will earn another fortune!

Customer: "I want that new PDK thing"

Dealer: "No problem. 6500 Euro in total. Do you want paddles?"

Customer: "Er, yes I think that would be nice, aren't they included?"

Dealer: "Sorry no, but doesn't cost that much, 1500 for the fixed ones at the steering column then?"

Customer: "Gosh, I never wanted this Maser crap again, I want rotating paddles!"

Dealer: "No problem, Italian crap, you're right, PDK with GRP (German Rotating Paddles) then, that's another 2500. Anything else?"

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

Although it's funny, it shouldn't be

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out ?

What I don't get is that Porsche doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get that PDK tranny.

All other competitors have these fancy gearboxes and all porsche has is that old ridiculous tiptronic. Audi has been using the DSG for a couple of years now, ferrari use its F1 since the 355 and the gallardo had the e-gear thing since its introduction.

Hello porsche ... anybody home ???

Good one. After all we are expected to pay for a decent steering wheel.

On F1 cars the gear change goes with the wheel too, of course, the point being that you don't have to take your hands off the wheel at all. With the (ahem) German solution sometimes you need to move your hand use the central gear knob if you really are accelerating hard round onto a roundabout and turning more than a certain amount, but that's cool. One advantage of the fixed, I guess, is always knowing where the paddles are. On the Mas (seriously, people, don't buy one) there was no central gear stick to use in addition to the paddles.

    I just want PDK!!

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out

Exactly! "PDK is available only with the multifunction wheel. Another $1500, please."

Re: does anyone know when 997TT PDK will come out

The key expected benefits of PDK are more gears and faster shift times with reduced weight overhead (please advise me if wrong), rather than the position of the paddles - the shift times on the latest 997 Tip. are already pretty good compared with previous models so it's going to be a hard act to follow.

Paddle gear levers could just as well have been implemented with the Tiptronic box and if and when PDK ever appears Porsche could just as well keep the Tip. paddles could they not - they rotate with the steering wheel and have UP/DOWN on both sides which is arguably more useful than separate paddles but then again this is also about driving technique and therefore could indeed be yet another cost option...

You forgot the last line of the dialogue:

Customer: "Oh thank you Porsche, thank you, thank you so much for your extreme generosity. Thank you, thank you...."
