How about non-Vettes? "Threats?"

Got to a light last night in my S. A guy is already there with his..., I dunno..., Dodge Magnum? Charger? It was some GM rig with a loud exhaust which the guy goosed a few times before speeding off. I took off like grandma was in car.

Made me wonder, what about Pontiacs, Dodges, Mustangs; all those cheaper cars with the big engines (often with wussy narrow tires!)?

Are they just toilet paper when compared to our cars? What was that guy thinking when he sped off? Did he have ANY rational basis to "challenge" a Carrera like that? Is it a dragster thing? How are these new muscle cars comparing on the track?

The mustang Saleen is a gr8 car but the rest despite the horsepower are junks, no handling no braking, including the Viper. The Corvette Z06 is a different class and a true champion and best bang for the bucks. I have seen it beating the 997TT and I have seen it beaten by the 997TT. Both awsome cars but the TT with a 6 cyl 480 H.P. engine does pretty well against the Z06.

Its a combination of
A) you looking too deeply
B) a guy in his GM rig with some good torque wanting to have a little fun.

In any case I would say relax and laugh a little.

You don't drive your cars in a smoking jacket and pipe, do you?

LOL. Good POV-change suggestion.

I guess I was a little annoyed because of a long day and all-of-a-sudden I got a drag race on my hands.

Nevertheless, what are these non-vette cars good at? Other than a ticket and an arrest, I wonder what would have happened if I beat the cr*p out of my S.

I commend you for not getting sucked into a totally useless and dangerous endeavor. Your class in not engaging only served to heighten his insecurity about your car. You see, he had absolutely nothing to lose and you had nothing to gain. Only suckers take those conditions.

Absolutely.

Nothing to gain and nothing to proove. The only time I consider behaving like an ahole is when it's an interstate or non-residential highway and there's no other traffic. Still, it's a great way to ruin one'$ life.

This is funny. I get this all the time from all types of cars. On my way home today a guy is a Honda Civic with a big muffler wanted to race. After we got on the highway he "opened it up". Man that was funny. I just let him do his thing and just keep driving as normal.

MMD, you got me smiling. GM rig but you are naming off Dodge products

As for the race, who cares what it's capable of doing at a red light! If it was a Dodge product it may or may not have been an SRT-8 and then the torque of that car may have made you cringe if you taken the drag race bait.'

Just enjoy your car as you do and however it makes you happy and those other owners will do the same.
