    Pleasant surprise.

You ever get a product and it works better than advertised? Its one of those rare happy surprises in life.

I am from the school of thought that nothing looks better than a clean black car (also believe the opposite holds true). The problem is for it to look really BLACK you need to wax. And I am too lazy/busy to wax my car as often as I would like. So %95 of the time its just (hand) washed.

Today its 75 in Michigan and I decide to wash the car (wheel cleaner, Maguires soap, Shop Vac, Windex) and I run out of the wheel cleaner (lets face it we use a lot). So on my trip to the auto parts place I see Turtle Wax 1 Step Dry and Wax and decide to give it a try.

Basically the bottle says you will get the wax finish/look by spraying this on while drying (yeah right). The instructions say to wash your car, rinse well and while wet spray a couple sprays on each panel while you are drying.

Well the car looks just like advertised; like it does after I hand wax it (read: BLACK mirror finish without a swirl to be found).

If your anything like me (busy/lazy) you might want to give it a try.

Anyone know of a great detailers forum? I'm always on the look out for a product that will help make and keep my cars looking great. Thanks for the tip!

Did it get rid of swirl marks?

Griot's Garage has some great stuff. I used to detail cars (friends, family members, etc.) and I would use Griot's and Maguires.

Just went out to the garage to make sure. Yeah, for the most part they are gone, if you look REALLY close you can see some artifacts (but then again I never looked that close after a 'real' wax).

Done, as soon as I get a little sun (worst case Thursday).

    # Today: Mostly cloudy with showers and a possible thunderstorm during the afternoon. High 66F. Winds WNW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
    # Tonight: Showers and thundershowers likely. Low near 45F. Winds NE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 60%.
    # Tomorrow: Cloudy with a few showers. Cooler. High 48F. Winds ENE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
    # Tomorrow night: A few showers early with mostly cloudy conditions late. Low near 35F. Winds ENE at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of rain 30%.
    # Thursday: Plenty of sun. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the upper 30s.

Interesting. I'm sort of on the lazy side, and especially because of the amount of "bug juice" I get on the car here in Virginia, instead of wax I use "Rejex", a polymer that doesn't give as good a shine but that gives much better protection against bug juice and road tar - the bad stuff doesn't stick as much. Given the color I have, Basalt Black Metallic, I'm not sure I sacrifice much shine by going with Rejex.

    autopia.org

And for those that like to speed up washing and drying, Optimum No Rinse wash is a great product

    Re: Pleasant surprise.

Got a little sun for some pics. After close examination the worst swirl marks are on the hood (still %100 better than just hand wash), not sure if I applied enough product, because on the hips and doors they are all but gone.

Sorry if I'm repeating what has been said but I remember hearing about dedicated wax products for dark-colored cars which hide swirl marks alot better than products you can use on any-colored car. I forgot the exact trade names..., dammit. FWIW.
