Suspect it's rarely an "either/or" decision for those capable of actually buying cars like 599.... 
Kudos to the F engineers/mgmt team for creating 599: a brilliant 4000lb luxury coupe for "elder statesmen"
....that relatively sophisticated car nuts seem to closely compare to both one-dimensional, more track-oriented cars like 640/CGT/Enzo, etc...and more GT-ish, daily-use luxury cars like CL63/997TT/SL65....

Yesterday i ve seen a 599 on street , its a very nice looking car.But ir looks like a Mercedes CL65 AMG or Aston Martin DB9 style. I mean GT. For me LP640 has real wild and exotic and different design than 599

For performance both are very fast cars with similar powers but i d go for LP640 because it is AWD and for a 640hp power AWD is an advantage to handle the car.

For the exhaust sound , yesterday 599 sound was really less than my Gallardo. I cannot imagine how LP would have an exhaust noise.

Biased? No, you don't seem biased at all. You're a Lambo zombie
. Really, the car is meant to be a GT, so it's quieter and more refined. Performance is exactly the same between the two cars, so AWD isn't a true advantage. Personally, I'd want to have both, but more realistically, I'd take the 599.

Crash AWD cannot be an advantage for you or for other people. But for me its an advantage i am not a track guy or a expert driver. But i also remember the comments about AWD on Murcie is tricky also
But i would prefer AWD for high rpm cars to control it better

Well, the E-diff in the 599 is doing quite a good job. Sure, AWD is nice, but from what I've heard doesn't do much for the Murcielago, regarding controllability.
Bottom line for me: I LOVE the way the 640 looks, sounds and goes. It's just that the 599 does everything the 640 does just as well, but is geared more toward the practical side. Think of it this way: 599 for the business meeting, 640 for when nobody's watching and you want to scare the hell out of everybody as you go by

I am completely surprised by the little poll results(so far), how can the 599 have more votes???, are we crazy????
I voted for the LP640 WITH MY EYES CLOSED!!!!
599GTB is absolutely beautiful, and its performance is just out of this world, its a GT car to perform long distance trips...I am in love with the design of it, specialy with the challenge stradale wheels!!!...
But seriously Lorenzo, there is no thinking in here, the lp640 is just so absolutely insane, I dont have words to describe it.......the sound!!!!, the scissor doors, the looks!!!, that center exhaust pipe, the interior, everything is magical...
No doubt if I had the money, I would go for the LP640 without thinking it twice, and probably ordering it in verde ithaca, just to make sure its out of this world!!!!!

I am getting the 599 delivery December. BMW Guarnieri brought me the one they had for sale for 350k but i thought it was a bit too much. I dont know what I am going to do this summer without a sportscar and now after seeing Mikes LP I would like to get one of my own. The only edge that the 599 has over the LP is that once I am done with it after a year I am gauranteed to not lose any money on it whereas the LP I am looking at 60 to 100K
Plus I am getting the AMV8 roadster in April but I am stil undecided if I am going to keep the car trade it in for something else.

Personally, I would have to take the LP640, because after seeing the 599 in person, it didn't stun me as much as F-cars usually do compared to the magazine pictures. The LP640 however, now seeing that car blew me away. In my opinion their aren't all that many cars that can pull off a lime green exterior with a black and white interior, put the Lamborghini can do just that.
I just get the impression that if I saw two cars at the same time, got a ride in them back-to-back, and then did the same thing 3 months later, the LP640 would be the one to take my breath away every time.
Now don't get me wrong, the 599 GTB is still an amazing car, and it wouldn't be a depressing reality to own one The Lamborghini has just stunned me every time in a way Ferrari's can't.

About the depreciation subject, that is a very good point, the 640 will probably depreciate dramatically, and 599 will even stay in its base price in some months time..
Its a very hard choice, but I would still go for the lp640....YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE !!!!, so what the hell, If I had the chance, I would do it...no matter if you loose 50k-100keuros in some ownership time......just dont get the amv8 roadster to stabilise the situation
What ever you have to do to open the garage door and see an LP640 sleeping there!!!!!

More of a question than a statement on my behalf: I haven't heard the lp640 in real life yet, but from what I've heard of the standard murcielago and the 599, I'm actually not sure the 599 is more quiet.. Both are very quiet at idle, and the 599 also sounds like
when being accelerated . Anyone
