    European Delivery Route

I am taking delivery of my 997 turbo in June at the factory and want to drive around Europe for 10-14 days. Any recommended routes? I have only been briefly to London and Paris so this is new to me. I am an avid photographer (Leicas- another great German product) so wouldn't mind a scenic route. I have posted this questio on Rennlist also but this is a more European board with probably more local experience. Thanks

    Re: European Delivery Route

Just a quick suggestion is to take in the Nurburgring which has stunning scenery as well as a fabulous road track to take a run round whether you wish to race or not. Pay your money and you just head on for 12 miles or so!
    Enjoy.

    Re: European Delivery Route

A quick drive south in Switzerland and back up through France was my choice when I collected, sadly the weather wasn't the best around the time I went.
If your into photography, you can't really go wrong driving around the swiss Alps

    Re: European Delivery Route

I'm doing this next year with a 997TT order. I've decided the preliminary route will be:

    Stuttgart to Lake Como
    Lake Como to Rome
    Rome to Ravello
    Ravello to Milan
    Milan to Stuttgart

    Re: European Delivery Route

A friend and some Rennlister mentioned break-in problems in parts of Italy. I know this can happen anywhere but it is a concern that maybe we should be very careful exactly where we stay in each town. Alin- I posted this on the 997 board at Rennlist with some other good ideas also worth considering. I can't wait (June 25th factory pick up).

I am picking up a GT3 the first week of June. My route will be
    Stuttgart>Munich>Salzburg>Innsbruck>Zurich>Geneva>San Tropez>Nice

    Re: European Delivery Route

Thanks- this is sounding more fun all the time.

    Re: European Delivery Route

    How about this:

    Stuttgart>Lake Lugano>Lake Como>Milan>Lake Garda>Verona>Florence>Siena>Monaco>Nice>Cannes>Geneva>Stuttgart

    Re: European Delivery Route

Very good idea to take the Euro Delivery. I'm not gonna give you some route options since other rennteamers have come up with lots of it, only a little of advise, just stay as much as you can in Germany-Austria and mainly in Switzerland. Although you may miss the opportunity to visit as much places as possible remember that the objective of this trip is to familiarize yourself with the car and to take extensive care of her break-in period. So travelling around for the shake of 'the jouney' will stress you and will put on this extra pressure that usually destracts from the actual focal point or worse makes us so nervous that we usually end up with regrets.

Said Switzerland before because this country combines the best of both worlds, i.e. excellent highways with least traffic and marvellous back roads for enjoying the other part of your car's virtues.

Whatever your decision might be, let us know

    Re: European Delivery Route

carcam: congratulations! We both share the same passions: PORSCHE and LEICA. I have been a Leica shooter for over three decades and have accumulated various Leica cameras and lenses over the years. My family have also been in the Leica business for over seventy years.

I picked up a GT3 from the factory last November:

    http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=997&Number=308925&page=17&fpart=all

I was only in Germany for a week and my route was planned by this company in the UK:

    http://www.driving-adventures.co.uk/

They noted my requirements, planned the route, booked hotels and even programmed the GPS for me.

Enjoys the GT3 pics - regrettably they were not shot with a Leica. Leica AG screwed up big time with the M8 and I had to take another camera instead.

Nice tour .... over what period did you do it ... it seems a lot of miles

    Re: European Delivery Route

14-days, 3,124 miles. I had some nice detours in Fontainbleau, Felines-Minervois, Gmund and the Black Forest. The Champagne Route around Reims and the wine tours in the Medoc were really enjoyable. The avatar with my car is when I was parked outside Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

When I was in the Alps, I'd hoped to do a few mountain passes but they were closed of course. I regret not doing that and driving at the Nurburgring. It was in my itinerary as a day trip from Freiburg but both days had big rainstorms. Another time perhaps.

I'm now planning a 3-week cross country round trip here in the States. I expect that will be 7,000 to 8,000-miles all in.

P.S.: The following are some pics of the car during the trip

    Re: European Delivery Route

sato, from your post, I assume your 997S is fully repaired and running like new again....if so, that's great to hear...hope you also managed to sort out the litigation threats...reading your earlier posts and seeing those photos made me feel so sad and angry....hope it all worked out well for you

    Re: European Delivery Route

    Thanks for the sentiments!

Yeah, she's looking and feeling good. The front-end repair job was as good as could be expected without going to Werk 1, and it has passed the acid test of other scrutinizing Porsche owners. My insurance situation is still open, but it sounds like the other parties are backing off their outrageous injury claims. I'm still steamed about the shoddy police report which with a little effort would have completely vindicated me.

Anyway, I'm not going to let all that stop me from enjoying my dream car.
