window leak

After washing my car I found out my left rear window had water leaks. Last year this happened on the other side and was fixed. I'm curious to know whether anyone had similar experiences because I've driven a lot of other cars but this is the first car I had water leaks in my window.

Haven't had a problem with leaks thus far - I have 6,633 miles on my 911S.

When washing it, I don't use a pressure washer, only a gentle but heavy stream of water from a special hoze nozzle (bought it at Griot's Garage). If you have a sunroof, are you sure it's closed properly? I would think there might be some sort of noise alert if it weren't closed, but I am not sure.

I have a leak in my left rear window also and it's been there since the car was new. My car is a 2006 997S and what I do is use a gentle stream of water on that particular window. I don't have a problem with rain at all so, rather than risking it into the hands of a local Porsche dealer's mechanic, I live with it since it doesn't pose any problems as long as I don't put too much pressurized water into that window. Nothing is perfect and, if it is, it won't be for long in this world.

I wonder if the car was not allowed to "sit" after installation of the windows at the factory. In either late August or early September I had to have my windshield replaced. I took it to the dealer, who subcontracts it to a specialty firm that does it right. They insisted on letting the car sit still for one full day before letting me pick it up. The vendor claimed that moving the car can unsettle the special glue used and lead to leaks. I haven't had any leaks - and I've washed it and gone through heavier rains several times.

I had a rear side window leak, and the dealer fixed it. He explained to me that the glass in a car kind of "floats"; otherwise, any flex in the car would risk breaking the window. Sometimes the float is set at the wrong height, or perhaps the window's height slips a bit. They just reset the height and that's that.
