need quick advice on 07 vs 08

My dealer called tonight and advised me a June build TT has become available, and if I can commit and spec within 48 hours it is mine. I've been on their list since the day I picked up my 2006 C2S coupe, and expected my slot to come up sometime in the fall of 2007. Although the dealer can not say exactly when, it seems probable that if I pass on the June build car (model year 2007) that I could have a 2008 before Christmas - also to my yet undetermined spec. I wasn't expecting this...what changes are certain for MY08, and what is rumored? Any other advice?

    thx

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

I'm in the same situation, and have decided to go for an '07 May build date.

I don't think we will see much if any change for '08. The LEDs are nice, but don't matter that much to me, and may not appear until '09 MY anyway.

I'd rather have the car sooner

The powerkit may come for the 2008 MY, but I seriously doubt that LEDs are going to be introduced by 2008.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

How about DSG or PDK? THAT would be worth waiting for.

Are you sure about the rarity of build slots? As a matter of routine I heard You can find another dealer that has an allocation and take delivery there or have it sent to your dealer.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

There is always a new model year around the corner...just get the car as soon as possible and start the enjoyment...

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

anything you can do to reduce the tt aquisition time is a plus from my perspective....07 - 08 naturally they will make some cosmetic changes, that often arent necessarily for the better, imo...pdk, who cares after driving my 6sp since june i wouldnt jump ship. the manual ss is just to much fun....sign up today

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

Like roadtrip said. Unless you really want an automatic or more power, go for June delivery. You will have the entire summer and autumn to enjoy the car as opposed to getting it at Christmas.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

June built date will give you a 07TT in Sept. 07, or wait 3 more months till Christmas to get a 08TT. Assuming that both cars will be identical and that you are in no rush, I'll wait 3 more months for the 08 as it may slightly increase your resale in a few years time.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

There may or may not be any significant improvements, but Porsche always finds things to make better each model year. I suspect the changes will be minimal. However, down the road, an '08 will be worth more than an '07 but cost you the same. A June '07 build might actually be an '08 but it would be cutting it close. I'd take the next slot and be assured of an '08.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

If you didn't already have a 2006 997 or if you lived in a winter weather state I'd say just go for the 07 in June. But waiting a few additional months for an 08 especially since you're in CA and can enjoy it year round sounds like the better way to go. Plus I'm not sure how your car was purchased, bought outright or financed but if financed you may be better off paying down the note another 6 months so you have more equity, but trading it in earlier w/ less mileage can sometimes work better, all depends on a multitude of factors inclding the fact an 08 will be worth more down the road but if you wait you'll be trading in a 2 year old car vs. a one M.Y yr. old car. In the 996 turbo changes in quality of interior materials from the first 2001's to the 2002's were easy to identify. Not sure if the 997 turbo will be similair but worth waiting to see imo. Wish we knew more about PDK, imho waiting till we perhaps have more info might be smart unless it's not important to you.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

My 2006 coupe was built in July of 2005. You are awfully close to next year's (2008) model in accepting the June built car, possibly ONE month. IMHO, one month IS worth the wait. There may not be any change but at this point no one knows for sure. Even the small changes might be worth it; for example in my case I believe the 2006 brought TPMS, IMO well worth the wait. The only downside is there most likely will be a small price increase. And of course if you DON'T like that new tail light than you might not want to take a chance.

BTW, I've been told that 2008 allocations are not known until April or May of 2007. Has anyone heard differently? Thanks.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

A june 07 could not be a 08 spec if there are any changes anyway the Porsche factory closes for August each year to re-set the lines for model changes so an 08 car would have to be built Sept onwards ,
My thoughts get your car now and enjoy !! 07 - 08 prices !! its all about mileage on TT , Get the mannual and blast your way to the SMile Make sure you get sports chrono and the GT3 LSD makes a world of diff and of course PCCB II if within budget

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

I'm waiting for my turbo (June delivery), but I must say after driving the "plain Jane" C2, C2S, Boxster, Boxster S, and Cayman, at the Porsche Driving Experience last week, more power is the last thing you need. All those cars have more than adequate power, unless you're considering using your car as a drag racer.

Yes, I still WANT my turbo, but I certainly don't NEED it.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

Thanks to all of you who replied to my original post. I agonized over this for 2 days and elected to pass on the June 07 build as I'll be #1 for the dealer's 2008 allocation. The other factor that came into play is that my daughter and future son-in-law received their MD residency match on Thursday and will sadly be in NYC for their intern (medicine) year - they are to receive my 2006 C2S as a wedding/grad present but they can't use a car like that while living in Greenwich Village! I'll wait for my TT and they will have to wait for the 997C2S

Congrats for your daughter and son in law and you made the right decision. I did my residency in NYC and it is no place for a resident to have a C2S. Both of them are going to be so busy it is not even funny and they would not enjoy it enough, not to mention parking problems and maintenance costs on intern salaries.
Still, I wish my father in law was as generous .

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

Congrats for your daughter and son-in-law. They got matched together in the same city so they must be happy.

When I got into my residency (in Vancouver), my mom bought me a brand new Audi 100S4, one of the biggest gift in my life. I was so happy!

Wow! Congrats, now that's some gift. Good for you,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,& them!

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

They're interning together at St Vincents in Manhattan; my daughter's dermatology residency is somewhere called Montefiore and future son-in-law has his radiology residency in Westchester - they say they can live in Riverdale (??-could not find this on a map) and should be able to keep the C2S happy there. Can any NY people comment if this sounds rational??

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

Riverdale is a quasi-suburban neighborhood in NYC, just north of where the Harlem River joins the Hudson River (aka Spuyten Duyvil). Some apartment buildings have garages. You could keep a car on the street in some parts of Riverdale if you don't mind the hassle of moving it all the time due to street sweeping/plowing etc. Wikipedia has a decent write up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverdale,_Bronx

It wouldn't be StVincent's would it?
I trained there and am still an attending as well( from Kansas no less). I gather they're in the transitional program, one of the best in the city. They will get phenominal training, I did(surgery). As an attending I can park my tt without issue in the doctor's parking, but there is no place for residents to really park, plus they'll never need it in the city.Forget a car as a resident in the city.

Re: need quick advice on 07 vs 08

Yes, St Vincents. As I understand it, their first year after graduation next month from NYMC is "general medicine", and then they move to different facilities for their respective specialties. Actually, both are at St Vincents for the next few weeks doing some kind of rotations - not sure what the correct medical term is. I think they are going to live in a Hoboken apartment near the PATH train - apparently close to St Vincents? Small world, huh :>) I guess they will have to wait 1 year for my 997 C2S coupe until they get situated somewhere car friendly.
