    Sport Exhaust

    I am considering adding a sport exhaust to my car and until my last visit to the dealer I was set to install the one from TechArt. My dealer told me that I should be careful as my car is still under warranty and that the sport exhaust changes the timing of the engine and could theoratically cause damage to the engine. This is very unlikely to ever happen but if this would happen Porsche would not repair anything in the engine under warranty as I had a TechArt exhaust. He said if I insisted on a sport exhaust he would recommend using the original Porsche one. I know this could be a sales pitch but I am wondering if there is some truth...
    What do you think?

    Total BS but I would not hold it past him to deny your Warranty.

    Would your car still be street-legal at all in the Czech Republic? I suspect your insurance company would nix your coverage as well.

    I'd stick to the PSE, with the good ol' cut-off switch in the console.

    Can the dealer denied warranty if the PSE was installed by a non-dealer?

    My understanding is the following:
    1) Techart has the cut-off switch as well.
    2) Under EU legislation is does not matter who installs (i.e. authorised dealer or other workshop) as long as the installation is carried in a professional manner and according to manufacturer recommendations.
    3) Warranty needs to be abided by if original parts are used and correct maintenance procedures.
    The thing which is worrying me is "the sport exhaust has an impact on how the engine works, timing, speed of fumes, etc,". I thought, maybe naive, that the sport exhaust is just an exhaust with no change to the engine itself...

    The only way I can see this happening is if you take the car in to the shop and the PSE caused the issue you were having. Even then I would think it would be an uphill battle for them to deny you. I would think the dealer would want to do as much warranty work as possible since Porsche is paying the bill. I could be wrong though.

    But I think they may assume you would still pay for work not covered. I don't know but I'd imagine the warranty work is compensated less than full price from Porsche.
