Na Mezger:Thanks for the post, it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against E 63 S !!!!
My guess is: Straight line? Pretty similar. Track? The M5 could be a bit faster.
Still, the E63 wins when it comes to engine/exhaust sound, even if it sounds much calmer than the C63 for example, especially from the inside (E63 is pretty quiet from the inside, you barely hear a thing).

Hey RC check out this video below, it sounds fairly raucous here, did you go in one with a sports exhaust activated ?
I have not been in one so I am relying on your insight .

Yes, sport exhaust was activated. I am spoiled by the R8 though, so...
The E63 sounds good from the inside but compared to the C63 for example, it sounds more muted and has less exhaust crackles.
The M5 cannot sound better, unless they really changed something. Since the engine is the same, I doubt it though.
If I had to choose, I would get the E63 S AMG because I also like the interior better on the Mercedes. Kind of got bored of BMW, can't help it.

JoeRockhead:The first minute or so of this video will give you a sense of the exhaust note. There has definitely been some improvement.
Never trust official videos...

I think you are right about the interior, the carbon option looks amazing and goes all the way into the doors, one of the best interiors around for me at the moment.

DaveGordon:Weird thing is they take one of the best 2wd drift cars of all time, make it 4wd on the basis of stability, then sell it with drifting..
You can't watch a car video these days without drifting, and I suppose we should thank Chris Harris for that. At least it has the option of selecting 2 or 4, which will keeps everyone happy.

Yes, that is a nice feature. I think the E-Class AMG does this too...

BjoernB:I cannot understand how somebody would build a 68 Liter tank into such a car....
I am sure there is the no cost option of a bigger tank . They all do that now in order to have a lower official weight , as the tank has to be filled to half . On my Q7 it was the same . No one takes the standard 60 liter tank

M5s are notorious for small tanks, my 2006 M5 was able to last barely 150 miles before had to get a fill up.
This new car is a missed opportunity, IMO.
I was hoping for similar impact, splash like the E39 M5 did in 1999, instead this car is a "me too", with no advantage over E63 or Audi RS7.

If you want a good drifting car, get an old 5 series (535i for example) or even a M5 V10 and enjoy...
Or get a pony car...
The M3 V8 is also pretty good.

ha:For some reason I prefer the RS6 (wagon) over both the Merc & the BMW.. I know not a whole lot of car enthusiasts share this opinion.
I like the RS6 Performance a lot but if I had to choose now, I would choose the new E63 S AMG. Amazing car. So bad it isn't available as a Coupe, I would probably choose it over the GLC63 I plan to get (dealer promised a February 2018 delivery but I don't need/want it before March 2018).

They bumped the capacity up to 80 litres for the current M5, so not sure why they would go smaller. I think the E63 is a 66 litre tank?

RS 6 is also really cool, too dated though inside compared to these 2 IMO.
BTW RC has does the E63 s compare in straight line performance, no doubt it can't match the howl of your V10

The E63 is quite impressive straight line but I haven't done any measurements with my QStarz...simply because I didn't have it at that time and my Performance Box was "lost" somewhere in my garage at that time (wives... ).
It pulls hard, really hard and the sound is pretty good (for a 2017 car ) but not even close to the V10 sound of course. Of course there is a turbo lag but it is smaller than I remembered from the previous E63. I liked the steering a lot, much more direct, it just didn't feel like your typical Mercedes anymore, very good setup.
I drove the RS6 Performance with Akrapovic exhaust a couple of weeks earlier and I have to say the E63 sounds much better, it also "feels" sportier and I had the feeling that it pulls much harder at speeds over 200 kph than the RS6.
I also liked the fact that the new E63 looks more compact than the previous generation and compared to the new Panamera, the E63 looks smaller (it really isn't much smaller though). When I went to the dealer to pick it up, I thought it is a C63 from the distance... I also liked the digital speedo cluster, finally...

Thank you but we aren't "there" yet (lease negotiations). My wife probably gets a C63 S Cab and I get the GLC63 S SUV (not Coupe), dealer is trying hard to offer a good deal but GLC63 S SUV is in very high demand and he has a hard time coming up with an acceptable deal. I am pretty sure though we are going to come to an agreement since he (dealer) is very keen to make this deal.
Unless of course Porsche makes me a lease offer I cannot say no to for the new Cayenne Turbo. I really like the new Cayenne Turbo but it is a bit too expensive for me as a family car. No more expensive family cars, not worth it.

I don't understand how BMW can get the stance of its M3 so right, with its wide arches front and back, and get it so wrong on the M5 every time. It looks so bland, especially the rear is in need of some arches. Compare that to this...

I agree, it has no road presence !!! When you an RS 6 you just want to own one !!!
