    What did you hear ?

    I heard this :

    • GT3.2 NO
    • GT2 RS OK
    • GT3 RS.2 OK
    • Something in limited edition every year.

    GT3.2 is coming...

    GT2 RS pretty much yes

    GT3 RS.2 very likely

i hear the same, unfortunately. i'd wish for no GT3RS.2:::))))

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

The typical Porsche customer doesn't seem to mind the 675LT...or he has both.

Btw: Interesting thing I heard recently. The 911 R was supposed to be limited edition at first but then, demand assessment seemed to be so overwhelming that they wanted to offer it without limitation. At the last moment, the Porsche leadership apparently decided to limit production for whatever reasons. This also got many many customers very p.ss.d since A. many cars are now allocated through a lottery at dealers, B. USA 918 VIP customers seem to get their choice to get a 991 R if they want to, German 918 customers apparently not (one reason why the US may get over 400 cars, the biggest allocation for a single country) and C. many customers are p.ss.d because production is limited.

So overall, it seems that the 991 R has stirred up lots of (negative) emotions, which is sad.

I understand that Porsche wanted to offer a special limited edition model but to be honest: Would it have killed Porsche to forget about any limitation and offer this fantastic car to all enthusiasts? They did this with the RS, so why not with the R as well? It now becomes the object of speculation and bad feelings, which is sad.

Yes, I know. But Porsche left too much room under the 918 and above the GT3RS/Turbo S for long times and that's a mistake imv.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Maybe not really profitable for them? Look at the current Turbo/Turbo S sales figures, Porsche apparently couldn't be happier and this car really is expensive (in my opinion).

Porsche is doing so well I read they gave a $10,000 bonus to their employees.

Also, the reason why they didn't build more R's is because their old part inventory is limited.

The 918 is sort of a one of, once in a blue moon car, so the pricing cannot be considered.

They never had anything above 300k MSRP.

    Maybe I should get "mine"?

A German dealer I know of has a lottery going on to get a 911 R and to enter the lottery, you need to pay 5000 EUR to a charity of his choice. The 5000 EUR just gives you the right to enter the lottery, you don't get the car. Oh boy...

My dealer also has a lottery for the customers who are interested in one 911 R he gets...

Indeed (although a friend bought one for 1.1 Mio lately, he was a bit too late to the game...).

For a 991 R, these sums are absolutely insane. I also doubt that they can be achieved right now but who knows, there are enough crazy people out there. Smiley

If a buyer is willing to put this kind of money for an R he better have his mind checked , or he is just trying to through as much cash as he can out of the window .

None of the RS advertised at over 300k in Switzerland have been sold . I just think people do that to try , but are not really interested to sell, or they do it just to do a buzz .

I would laugh my ass off if Porsche offers a regular non limited 911 RS or whatever the name will be with the same engine but PDK. Yes, the 911 R would still be interesting for collectors but for everyone else, not so much. Or a GT3 with a wing delete option (basically same thing as 911 R).

I cannot believe Porsche won't exploit the demand for such a car...

I don't think this hype is driven by a demand for the qualities of the car itself but rather the intrinsic value of a limited edition model.

True but once the hype calms down and Porsche offers a similar (not that limited though) model, people (mostly speculators) may lose interest in this car. For collectors, this car is of course something very special but I doubt it will be much more valuable than a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 in the end. Maybe on a similar price level or slightly more.

I would never ever pay over a million for the 991 R, this is insane.

So much for the process of having the factory scrutinize buyers to avoid flippers.... but of course you can never completely avoid the arbitrage game that will tempt people if there is a market.

Let's not forget that the asking price is seldom the paid price. Lot's of high end cars are advertised with silly prices but that's just to inflate the bubble, they never get sold for that kind of money.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

LOL. No one is going to buy a 911R for $1M. It's just some idiot thinking some other idiot out there will buy it.

I bet the car fetches $100-150K premium tops, and even less when the next GT3 is a manual with a wing-delete option and better in every way.

"Limited" Porsches are hot right now, but cooling quickly. Just look how much the GT3 RS has dropped. Can be had all day at $260K when not long ago they were over $300K. Porsches have been and still are in bubble land. Seinfeld just unloaded $20M worth of cars. Why? Guy probably makes $10M/month and it's hard to believe in the entire US or vicinity of his house he can't find a few more parking spaces.

    Really?
    959, GT1, 997 GT3 4.0, Sport Classic, CGT, 918, 991 R.........?

Regarding the 991 GT3 RS, please give one single model which comes from your beloved Woking and produced in 5000+ units, which sells for ONE dollar over Msrp? Only one :)

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I just read on Rennlist a guy spec'ed out a 2017 Targa with $72,000 in options. Porsche does some strange things to people. mail

BTW, when asked why he is spending so much on options he response was classic; "Its because I wanted them". So YES, there will be those that would spend over $500,000 for an R "because they wanted it". heart

Some of those cars are never really for sale, so who knows, but some have been coming down off highs that they reached recently.

CGT was a $350K all day long un uptil only like 2-3 years ago and recently people were asking $800K. All 997 GT3s were way under MSRP and tons available. These car practically doubled in price for no real reason other than speculation. I almost bought a 997 .1 GT3 for $70K a few years ago.

Never said McLaren's are great value or that limited Porsche don't appreciate. I merely said Porsches are bubbly and I think they will come back down a decent amount.

I don't know why people think I'm a McLaren diehard or fanboy... my 12C has been the most unreliable car I've ever owned. Depreciation is awful and I tell everyone they're an idiot to buy one new, or just have a lot of money. I'm not going to argue that the best value for money is not the car that appreciated the most, but you can't make people like cars or a brand. McLaren values are what the are for whatever reason, but I'm not going to pretend a piece of shit 997 with $5K worth of body work (Sport Classic) has any real value other than speculation.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Who the heck is going to pay ~1M € for a 991 R? One have to be really stupid/rich to pay this amount of money for this car. In this price range (and a few hundreds less) you've got cars way more special than the R.

I mean, even a GT3 RS 4.0 which is relatively modern and almost produced 400 cars less has an asking price of ~400k €.
