Yes, I know they have no current plans but, Ford is in desperate, desperate trouble. It's just a question of time before they have to revisit this decision and start selling off assets. Ford's long term survival is in doubt.
I like the XKR though. It's a nice car. Somehow, there's something missing though. A certain 'x' factor. The XK8/XKR doesn't seem wild enough.

I think by "harsh" he meant that, although you think it is a beautiful design, you include what could be construed as a veiled criticism that it is a blatant copy of the AM DB9 by Jaguar. However, the most positive interpretation of such copying would be that it is flattering.

That's not harsh just the real world truth. Jag like the rest of Ford is hard up for sales and lacking hot design's. AM has the best looking line-up bar none, but how many DB 9's will get sold at that price.
So the bean counters at Ford said take the good design and spread it thin over the jag chassis to generate some interest and money. To my eyes it is almost a clone.

I have to say that I'm a little surprised at how people consider the XK8/XKR to be a baby Aston V8 Vantage.
I think any resemblence there may be is under the skin e.g. the Aston has a 4.3L V8 whereas the Jag has a 4.2L V8.
I think the exterior and interior designs look really quite different. In fact, different enough for this criticism not to be justified IMHO.
I think, for comparison purposes, if you took the Aston Martin DB7 and the previous Jag XK8 and placed them side by side, you'd be hard pressed to tell them apart The 'Ford family resemblence' criticism was totally justified and true then IMO.
