    2001 GT2 / 2004 GT2/ 2007 GT2

what's the different between 2001 GT2 and 2004 GT2,are they both 996? why their names are completely the same?
Is it that a new GT2 is born every 3 years?

    Both, 2001 GT2 and 2004 GT2, are 996 models. The 2004 GT2 (Mk2) has roughly 20hp (482hp) more than the Mk1 version of the year 2001.

Presentation of the new 997GT2 (with around 530hp) is expected for the IAA in September 2007.

In general, the GT2 versions have RWD (vs. AWD in the 997TT) and come without PSM. The 997GT2 is likely to have TC (but still no PSM).

    Re: 2001 GT2 / 2004 GT2/ 2007 GT2

How do you know it will around 530hp?

The hp figure has not been confirmed by Porsche yet. The 530hp is just my personal expectation. I would be surprised to see a higher figure... The hp output could even be slightly lower, thus somewhere between 520hp and 530hp.

I'm with you on the 530 figure. What did surprise me, though, was the speculation that the base Carrera might get 360 bhp and the S around 400 (the topic in the german section). Might be a hint of Porsche pushing its cars' power further than previously thought.

    Re: 2001 GT2 / 2004 GT2/ 2007 GT2

Lots of magazine guess at least 550hp + and that's what I would expected.

Listen, you're on Rennteam. Generally, people here know much more than magazines and we knew that the Turbo would have 480 bhp and VTGs while most magazines were still talking about 460 bhp and not much else.

I have not seen a single German magazine (assuming that those should be rather well informed...) stating a number in excess of 530hp. All numbers in the German press I have seen to date are in the 520-530hp range.

Don't expect too much. You are likely to get disappointed. Just remember the disappointing power figure of the 997TT

IF the GT2 530hp so what about the TT S? 510hp?

Only 530hp I am wondering the GT2 can beat the LP640, F599 or not?

Some say the performance may close to the CGT, but that car has 600hp and is lighter.

    Re: 2001 GT2 / 2004 GT2/ 2007 GT2

    what gearbox will GT2 use?

510hp are probably the correct number in case of the 997TTx50 (or TTS).

My expectation is that LP640 and 599GTB are still (noticeably) faster above 200kph than the 997GT2. However, the GT2 should be capable of doing 0-200kph in 11s (as the two Italian cars). Everything else would be a major disappointment.

Regarding track performance the car will still be light years away from the CGT. I am sure of this. Just look at the rather disappointing performance of 997GT3 and GT3RS. The GT2 might do the NBR in 7:40 as it will be equipped with sport tires. However, apart from the tires I would not expect much improvement.

Latest rumours indicate that the GT2 will get manual transmission only.

In summary, the 997GT2 is unlikely to be a big step forward in terms of performance

Anyway, we are just guessing and I wish what you have said is totally wrong!

Probably, Porsche will give as a positive surprise via the 997 GT2.

Especially, nowadays Ferari, Lambo etc is getting much better than before.

    997GT3RS,

I think Markus will be proved correct on this-not that I wish this myself, but that 550HP # I've seen in a couple of places (one US car mag., one internet site) is counter to most other sources-including anonymous ones providing "hints" to "important" rennteamers on this forum.

Even at a "detuned" 480-ish HP, the 997TT is selling quite well, and the 997TTS and GT2 will be over 500, but probably closer to 500 than 550, and both will sell well-well, maybe not the GT2 which will be priced intentionally to a limited market.

What I am more keenly interested in is what will the 525-530HP TT-powerkit/TTS/GT2 comprise-any mod. to the VTG itself, or just ECU re-program with tweaks to the tranny, exhaust and intercoolers? Since I will mod. the 997TT I choose to well above these stock figures, the mechanical changes (if any) made to the 997TT-PK/TTS/GT2 are more important to me than the reported stock peak HP figures themselves.

997 VTG turbo motors are easy to modify?

If I buy a GT2 I am not going to modify it too much. Probably, just do some light tuning. That's why I want more hp from the factory.

And I guess everyone just wants more.

I heard that the ZO6SS will have 650hp!
