    CGT is forsaken by Porsche?

We can simply consider the FXX,Corsa,CCXR,ZondaR as the ExTreme version of Enzo,mc12,ccx,and Zonda F.
And we know that ,the 772 and the lp640 are the upgraded version of SLR and Murcielago。

    However,we still can't see a new version of CGT。Why?
Are all the engineers of Porsche working hard for unreleased GT2 and next top car GT1?

IMO,the CGT is great but still can't match the expectation of many Porsche fans.People want to see a GT1 more than a CGT.

the Murcielago lp640 manifests flexbile control which can't be found on other Lambo.Comparing to he lp640,will a faster-straight-going CGT come out? you know,CGT performs commonplacely in acceleration。

Anyway,it seems that the CGT has been forsaken.
    just wait for the GT1.

Re: CGT is forsaken by Porsche?

The CGT is an a different catagory than the 911 gt range.

Re: CGT is forsaken by Porsche?

Unless there was a ton of money to be made on an extreme version of the CGT, Porsche would never embark on such a venture given the difficulties they had selling the CGT.

One solution would be to follow Ferrari and build a next gen CGT with 800+ HP and make only 300 and sell them for $1M!

I agree with you here. I wonder if the next "supercar" would be an updated GT1.

That would actually work. But honestly... that kind of money is sofa change to Porsche. They're content mass marketing McPorsches at this point.

Re: CGT is forsaken by Porsche?

I think it is a question of time. If you look at the times they have put a supercar there are some years allways between them. even in Ferrari the top of the range, F40, F50, enzo there are more or less 10 years in between. These cars for the companies are not so much about going faster between the fastest but more on the highest level of techology they can bring.... so IMO unless there is something really new to see from Porsche we wont't see another hipercar.... and I'm sad about it...

Nick - the CGT was by far the best selling supercar of all time. Maybe their sales targets were unrealistically high (hoped to make 1,500), but selling 1,250 units at $440k seems like an unqualified success to me. Probably should've only made 1,000 (double the Enzo production), but still a success...

Grant, that is what the PR machine for Porsche claimed. Truth be told that though they had deposits from buyer's, many backed out and Porsche was forced to "sell" them to dealers who in turn sold them at substantial discounts. Today a low mileage CGT in the resale market is lucky to get $350,000 which is about $100,000 less than MSRP.

Many of their better customers got burned and I doubt Porsche will produce another "supercar" unless there was a great deal of money to be made for Porsche. As far as the customer....well he/she can go and pound sand.

Not when its the GT1 we're talking bout
GT1's still the big daddy of all Porsches made IMO

Even if they sold 1,000 at full price and discounted 250, we're still talking about a significant quota, considering its "steep" price.

On the other hand Ferrari's are sold at considerably over MSRP (at least in the US), creating a negative purchasing experience IMO. Yes, their resale values are good, but the system is terrible. I've heard of new customers being asked to first purchase a Maserati. Only then would they be granted a spot on the Ferrari waiting list.

Unfortunately, the CGT was expensive, considering you can buy a LP640 today, with similar performance, for much less! The same can be said about the Enzo, which was even more expensive. However, Ferrari seems to have the pedigree to justify their prices while Porsche has previously been perceived as the "cheaper" alternative. However, you have to admit, the CGT was a great success - not to mention one of the greatest supercars ever made!

If only Porsche would make a NA V8 version of the CGT, with slightly less performance/technology (read: no carbon fibre clutch), with maybe 550hp and sell it for $200k USD.

Re: CGT is forsaken by Porsche?

I think the CGT was too extreme for 99% of Porsche customers who could afford one.

Other potential customers in its price range did not want to spend 450K for a Porsche. The brand doesnt work in the mid-stratospheric market.

The CGT was too real of a machine and lacked the whole show boat presence thing that some Ferraris and Lambos have.

It had many firsts for a Porsche and also many "last time you will see that" on a Porsche features.

Its best for some one who is really a hard core sports car guy/or a maniac Porsche enthusiast.

I certainly would buy one provided it had a sequential tranny.

Pretty clever idea, but that is comical.

hmmm... Schwarzenbauer daydreaming..... P- dealers could require GT3 RS buyers to first purchase a 2006 CAYMAN! in order to secure an RS allocation.....

It's not comical in the US. A friend of mine, who has an ARMADA of exotics, including several F cars (but mostly Lambos, MB and Rolls') went to Ferrari dealership, looking to pick up an F430. Mind you, he has bought 5 F cars...the dealer told him to pick up a Maser GT or a 612 Scag and then pray that he could get an F430 at MSRP+ in 2 years or drop 330+

servicing the customer? I call it a Ponzi scheme...

Yes exactly. Ferrari's marketing strategy it to build whatever they want, no matter how terrible it looks, but just build it in low enough volumes to justify the price, for just enough buyers. You think Ferrari can sell as many fugly looking F430 spyders as Porsche sells 997 cabrios? Absolutely not. If Ferrari produced as many, 50% would be sitting on dealer lots and the price would plummet. Good for Ferrari. Terrible for enthusiasts.

I am considering buying a US version 2005 CGT with less than 500miles. What should I pay of it? The dealer quoted me $379k

Are you in the US? A used 2005 generally can be had for less than $350,000. Although only 500 miles may give it additional value. However, the warranty period may be an issue especially if the car is outside the US.

Re: CGT is forsaken by Porsche?

Thanks for the info. I'm in Bangkok and plan to import a US car. I found that US is the cheapest place to buy CGT (with 50% of the 1270 made it here). The car I'm looking at is just over 2 years old which means the warranty had just ended. There are two CGT in Thailand. The new one costs more than a million US$ with 320% tax! Even what I am trying to do, it will cost me around $700-800K. I will try to bargain with the US dealer to say $350k range.
