Why no 911 speedster ?

Was wondering why there is no speedster in the current 911 line? Any ideas?

I think such a car doesn't fit in the Porsche philosophy (and customer philosophy

) any longer, since the 911 has become an all-round sportscar.

Perhaps Speedster-version of the Boxster would be possible.

Because a Powertop with insulation, a real windshield with a nice cozy interior is probabably what people really want anyway.I think your question is valid, though. I wish they would build it; too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the original Porsche speedster concept is a stripped-down car that had the bare minimum of weight and features. Was done for two reasons, to be more sporty and to be cheaper to buy .

I guess, the Carrera, as Porsche's flagship, luxury and GT car no longer can co-exist with the speedster concept.

The Boxster kind of replaces it. That, and modern crash regulations killed it.

Agree that the Boxster is an alternative to a speester. But a 911 speedster would be an amazing sportscar.

A speedster version of the 911 would probably have too small a production to justify the liability. If done, would more likely come from one of the independent tuners.

Here's the real answer. The factory is working two shifts a day to manufacture normal 911s. They don't HAVE to make a stripped down car (a la Speedster) for sales goals.

They could easily sell a Speedster at a $20k markup over the regular cabriolet, though.

Correct, who says a Speedster has to cheaper than the cab?
