I ordered my car in mid Feb 2006. At the time I ordered, I was told I could have collected it in June 2006 (if I was happy to get a MY2006 car) so the wait would have been around 4 months. This is fairly typical.
In my case, however, I wanted a MY2007 car. The new model year only starts (usually) after the factory break in August so I was supposed to get my car in Sept 2006. There were some delays so I was told I could only get it in October. However, I myself couldn't travel until November due to work and family factors. That's why I waited till 10 November in the end.

So far, no problems yet so I haven't needed to pay a visit to a UK dealer. But I have no doubts at all that UK dealers will welcome me just like they would somebody who bought a car from a UK dealer.
I had a Porsche Vehicle Tracking device fitted by a UK dealer. I got excellent service from them. At the end of the day, it's all after-sales business which is all welcome revenue for them! Why wouldn't the dealer want my custom if they benefit from it...?
I even contacted Customer Services at Porsche Cars Great Britain in Reading to let them know about my personal import. They were incredibly polite and helpful. Even though the car wasn't imported through them to the UK, to their credit, they went out of their way to be helpful. They added my car to their database of Porsches in the UK so that I will be informed of any recall notices etc. They even gave me a complimentary subscription to Christophorus saying that every 6 issues (i.e 1 year), I should simply contact them and they would keep renewing my Christophorus subscription for free. There is zero hostility to the fact that I personally imported my car from a German dealer collecting it myself from the factory.
How can I put this? The way I bought my car and the wonderful experience I have gone through has been one of the best experiences of my life.
