    Ouch for Porsche.

I suspect Audi will continue to soar with the A5.

Also, Buick needs to fire Tiger Woods.

Beginning of 2006 was the launch of the Cayman S, and Feb 2007 is just before the market launch of the Cayenne FL--really not surprising.

I think GM needs to get rid of Buick and Pontiac the way they did Olds.

    Re: Feb. '07 numbers in

Seems most of the far eastern brands are doing better!

    Toyota grew by 12.2%!!!!

    Re: Feb. '07 numbers in

So much for the Porsche/Volkswagen group setting its sights on Toyota.

    No chance.

    Re: Feb. '07 numbers in

I think monthly snapshots can be so misleading since they are heavily affected by seasonal buying patterns. The annual figures will hopefully be more representative since they will take into account the little peaks and troughs from new model introductions that much better.

Nonetheless, it seems an inescapable fact that the Cayenne cash cow is gradually diminishing in value with the shift away from SUVs due to higher fuel prices.

I guess we've all just accepted that Porsche has to make SUVs to help support the business of making sports cars. I don't think we can take that income stream for granted much longer.

I'm sure PAG are all too aware of this and are planning accordingly.

    Re: Feb. '07 numbers in

The decision to go forward with the Panamera might be linked to this. A sedan just attracts less hostility than a SUV.

I for one know I would not buy a Cayenne, but I'll probably buy a Panamera in 6 years or so (unless it's butt ugly).

    Re: Feb. '07 numbers in

I am sure Porsche will have a good explanation/spin. Though I agree month to month snap shots are not accurate indicators, nevertheless it does seem that the trend for Porsche is downward from a sales point of view. Of course that will change, at least temporarily, when the TT Cab. is introduced. To what extent I am not sure since the Cab will cut into the coupe sales.

BTW, FWIW my wife took the Mini in for service and they gave her a new BMW 3 series to drive. She hated it and said our Cayenne drove much better.

Boxster and Cayman sales are way off. Maybe they priced them too high or load them upo with to many options, whatever, they are not selling well at all and the biggest
sales drop was for the Cayman.

911 sales are up. Cayenne sales were hit by the 06 to 08 model change. The Cayenne is Porsches best selling vehicle overall.

My read of the Porsche sales #'s is that the 911/Cayenne figures are a wash, but that the majority of the drop was the bottom falling out of the Boxster/Cayman figures. The Caymanites might try to deny this, but their cars' figures don't look good.

I would expect total Cayenne figures to continue to creep downward even after the changeover to facelifted Cayenne's only, secondary to fuel price increases. Total 911 figures should also stay steady reflecting popularity of the 911 genre, and hopefully for all Porschephiles, the Panamera will be a hit, with variants for every demographic-an econimical V6, powerful NA and turbocharged V8's and V10's, and RWD and AWD versions, replacing the Cayenne as the bread-and-butter seller. This would indeed help all Porsche vehicles, including all 911's.
